DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi has paid an emotional tribute to the late Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun State Sector Commander, CC Oludare Ogunjobi, describing him as a remarkable personality whose presence and character left a lasting impression on those who encountered him.
In a moving tribute titled “An Iroko Has Fallen: The Commander My Tailor Always Spoke Highly Of,” Babaseyi reflected on his encounters with the late sector commander, highlighting his eloquence, composure, impressive appearance and dignified bearing.
Babaseyi recalled meeting Ogunjobi during the visit of the Commissioner of Police to the FRSC Command in Ogun State. He also remembered a subsequent courtesy visit by Public Relations Officers (PROs) across the state.
According to him, Ogunjobi's commanding presence and impeccable dressing immediately caught his attention, leaving him with a lasting impression of the senior officer.
## How a Tailor Connected Them
Beyond their official encounters, Babaseyi disclosed that he later discovered a personal connection with the late commander through their shared tailor.
He explained that the tailor frequently spoke about Ogunjobi with great admiration, making the late officer's name familiar even before their relationship extended beyond their professional encounters.
Consequently, when news of Ogunjobi's death reached him, the tailor was the first person who came to mind.
Babaseyi said he could only imagine the depth of the tailor's grief, noting that the experience made him reflect on the lasting impact people have on the lives of others.
He observed that a person's true worth cannot be measured solely by official rank, uniform or position but by the lives touched and the memories left behind.
“Beyond the uniform, the rank and the office, the true measure of a person lies in the hearts they touch and the memories they leave behind,” he reflected.
‘An Iroko Has Fallen’
Although Babaseyi acknowledged that his personal encounters with Ogunjobi were relatively few, he maintained that the late officer had made an unforgettable impression on him.
Describing the deceased as an iroko tree whose towering presence would continue to be remembered, he expressed sadness over the loss and offered prayers for the bereaved family, colleagues and other associates.
He also prayed that God would grant comfort to everyone mourning the late sector commander's death, while asking for the peaceful repose of his soul.
“An Iroko has fallen, but the memory of its towering presence will remain with us,” Babaseyi wrote.
The tribute concluded with a solemn farewell to Ogunjobi, acknowledging the pain of his departure while expressing faith in God's ultimate wisdom.
“Rest in power, CC Oludare Ogunjobi, Sir. May your soul find eternal rest in the bosom of the Almighty,” he stated.
He further bid the late officer farewell in Yoruba, writing, “Sun re o, Sir. You will be remembered.”
The emotional tribute serves as a reminder that beyond professional achievements and public recognition, the enduring legacy of an individual is often reflected in the relationships built, the respect earned and the lives touched.
May the soul of CC Oludare Ogunjobi rest in perfect peace.
