The Kebbi State Governor, Comerade Dr Nasir Idris has appealed to the people of Kebbi South to join hands with his administration to enable him deliver the desired dividends of democracy to the area.

He stated this on Saturday at the final grand ceremony of Zuru Uhola Cultural Festival and Agricultural Show held in Zuru, Zuru Local Government Area of the state.

He said the call was necessary in view of the fact that it would aid him to execute projects that have direct bearing to the lives of common people in the area, while citing an example of reconstruction of Koko-Dabai road.

"I knew it is a Federal Government road, which I wrote severally for the revocation of the road but still awaiting response from the federal government. However, may be there are some people that are playing politics with the road," he suspected.

The people's governor, who expressed worry over the state of the road, said that even if it's going to be the only project he would do for the people of Zuru Emirate, "I will ensure that I do it, so that later the Federal Government can pay me back."

He applauded the organisers of Zuru 2024 Uhola Cultural Festival and Agricultural Show, adding that his administration was ready to promote diversification in tourism and cultural heritage .

'We are done with Yauri Fishing Festival, now is Zuru Annual Cultural Festival, while we await Arugungu International Fishing Festival, which In Sha Allah will also be done this year," he assured.

Dr Idris, who also received an award of excellence for facilitating an improved security situation in Southern part of Kebbi State, assured the people of Zuru Emirate that his administration would continue to beef up security to enable them return to thier farms and normal businesses.

"I do spend millions of Naira every month on security, I want to protect lives and property of my people, I promised to ensure that security challenges in the state is reduced to the barest minimum. Therefore, I need people's support and cooperation in achieving the noble objectives," he said.

Also speaking, the Emir of Zuru, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Sani Sami (rtd), Sami Gomo II, thanked the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Kebbi State Governor, Comerade Dr Nasir Idris for supporting the occasion.

"This year's festival is unique, which showcased so many cultural heritage and it was a colourful and successful festival," he said.

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has said that promotion of culture for the unity of Kebbi State is key agenda of his administration.

He said his government would continue to support Uhola cultural international festival annually to strengthen the peace and unity that exists in the state.

The governor made the assertion at the 2024 Zuru Emirate Uhola International cultural festival and Agricultural Show on Saturday. 

He said the event has not only succeeded in elevating the status of Zuru Emirate to the world but Kebbi State as a whole.

" This event has not only elevated the status of Zuru Emirate,but the entire Kebbi State. 

' Promoting our culture is one of the key points of our administration and we have assured our royal fathers of our support ', he assured. 

While expressing delight with the exhibition of various cultural events at the Uhola Festival, he assured the Zuru Emir and people of the area about the determination of his administration to sustain support for holding the event annually. 

' I can assure his royal highness that Uhola festival has come to stay. Every year my administration will provide money and logistics to ensure hitch free Uhola, 'he said

He also gave an assurance that other notable festivals in the state like the Argungu International fishing festival, Gwandu Horse race and Durbar as well as the Yauri Rigata cultural festival would equally be supported by his administration. 

On security, Idris assured the people of the Emirate that security remained the number priority of his administration because of the belief that without peace,there is no development. 

'My Government spends 500 million monthly on security ' he averred. 

He said his administration took bold measures to improve the security situation particularly in Kebbi  South to protect lives and property of citizens.

'This administration has taken bold steps in addressing security challenges by regular payment of allowances to security personnel, providing logistic support, purchase of 40 Toyota Hilux as well as purchase of 1000 motorcycles to the vigilantes ' he said.

Lamenting  the deplorable state of Zuru - Dabai Road, Governor idris promised people of the area that he would not rest until the road was reconstructed despite efforts by some elements within the Emirate to frustrate his effort.

The Emir of Zuru,Major General,rtd, Sani Sami,Gomo 11 who is the custodian of the event was full of delight and commendation to Governor Nasir Idris for attending and supporting the Emirate with funds to stage the festival which has been listed in the calendar of NTDA. 

' This year’s festival is “Unity and Prosperity”, drawing attention towards utilising culture, arts and expression to unite the people', he said.

The Monarch appealed to Governor Nasir Idris for provision of some basic amenities in his Emirate such as electricity, water supply, television and radio stations.

He also requested the governor to rehabilitate the Koko -Zuru road to facilitate more investment and agricultural production in the area.

Earler, the Chairman of 2024 Uhola festival, Former Minister of Defence, Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd),said culture and tradition can be used to promote national unity amongst Nigerians.

The group in a statement signed by King White at the weekend said the lingering controversies generated by the death of the late Ileri Oluwa Aloba (Mohbad )was yet to be resolved as some bad elements masquerading as sympathizers of Mohbad's father embarked on huge blackmailing strategy to stop justice for the soul of the late singer.

White insisted further that no amount of blackmail can change the resolve of the group to seek justice for the late Mohbad, who he described as a big inspiration to many upcoming acts both when he was alive and even in death.

"We have at our disposal,reports of how the United Kingdom - based Adebanwo Idowu Fatai, also  known as Lagata allegedly resorted to blackmail and lies against Wunmi and members of our group.

"Lagata was alleged to have fraudulently used the Chambers and name of popular lawyer and activist,Kayode Ajulo,(now the Attorney General and Ondo state Commissioner for Justice) to

deceive unscrupulous members of the public, especially, those that are abroad,pretending to sympathize with the father of the late singer, Joseph Aloba.

"As much as we seek justice for the late Mohbad,we urge the Nigerian police to investigate all the various atrocities allegedly committed by Lagata and his members even as we warn them to desist from further cyber-bullying and blackmailing of the singer's widow Wunmi and members of our group,or else, we will take legal action against them.

"Evidence of their various illicit deals both home and abroad are in the public domain and we are ready to expose them to the public for them to know that they are just pretenders,serial liars and blackmailers".

Recalled that Mohbad's mother, Abosede Aloba had raised similar alarm to the Wife of the President and the First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu,Lagos state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and well meaning Nigerians to save her from those that allegedly threatened her life and that of her children.

Oladunjoye, who started writing for newspapers in 1980 with the Lagos News newspaper edited by Muka Popoola and published by the late Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande. The 60-man squad was inaugurated by the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Gumel, on Thursday at the police command headquarters in Kano.

The squad is to protect schools, learning facilities, students and pupils as well as their teachers from kidnappers and armed bandits.

Gumel said the SPS was an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Kayode Ebegtokun to adequately provide a safe environment for schooling and protect both the students and teachers as well as the schools’ facilities and their critical infrastructures.

This development is coming few weeks after Nigerian prophet, Primate Elijah Ayodele called on the government to quickly strategize on protecting Nigerian academic institutions as he foresees kidnap attacks.

Primate Ayodele has been calling for more security in Nigerian schools but renewed the call after the kidnap incident involving Kaduna pupils. He stated then that a new syndicate has started making more plans on kidnapping primary and secondary schools in the country starting from the north.

He urged governments to be on alert to avoid putting pupils in danger.

 “It is no longer Boko Haram or any existing group that is behind these kidnappings, it is a new group and they will soon name it. It’s a new terrorism syndicate that must be defeated. We should commit our military in prayers to defeat terrorism; we must not allow terrorists to ruin this government.

‘’These terrorists want to scare people from going to school, they want to destroy the future of this country but Tinubu shouldn’t agree. He should cooperate with the security outfits to defeat terrorism.

‘’If the government doesn’t act on this, they are ready to move to other states. The government must wake up and curb this now if not, school children will be kidnapped in other states apart from the north.’’

This is indeed a commendable step by the Nigeria police force and of course, it would go a long way in protecting academic institutions from the attacks of these dare-devils.

Over Two Hundred (200) Electric Power Generator Set and Deep Freezers have been presented to Small and Medium Scale Enterpreneurs in Lagos Island Federal Constituency 1.

A N100,000 Grant was given to each of the Resident trained at the Programme.

Graduates and Undergraduates were trained in Information and Communications Technology.

A Total of Twenty Laptop Computers were presented to them.

Solar Panel Technologists were presented with Equipment Boxes.

To ensure a Safer and Secure Community, He funded the Installation of Solar Power Street Lightings at Eletu Iwashe Quarters.

Dr. Badru financed the Rehabilitation and Construction of new Toilets and provided Furniture, Learning Materials, Ceiling Fans, Electric bulbs fittings at King Ado High School on Ojo Giwa Street, Lagos Island.

He organised Periodic Coaching for Pupils and Secondary School Students and paid the Teachers and Instructors engaged.

The Federal Lawmaker also embarked on Annual Distribution of Free General Certificate Examinations (GCE) and Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms to Secondary school students across the Constituency.

There are numerous motions that Dr. Badru sponsored on the floor of the Federal House of Representatives.

One of such is the motion to expand and beautify the Muritala International Airport road, A gesture applauded by the Federal and Lagos State Governments. The Project has been executed and delivered. It reduces traffic hold-ups and travel time.

“In the past, the bad Roadnetwork did not dignify that corridor of the country”, He stated.

“Indeed, I am happy that I moved the motion”.

He also initiated a motion to eject fuel Tankers parking indiscriminately on Eko bridge.

The unabated parking weakened the bridge and lead to avoidable collapse. The Bridge is a major link between the Mainland and Lagos Island.

Every means of transportation poses its own risk and hazards, however, some pose graver risk, especially when the right steps are not taken in the right direction. The fear and the attendant disaster that comes with air crashes are graver than one could imagine. This is why all must be adequately put in place, to avoid unnecessary distrust.

It is no longer news that Dana Airlines experienced yet another flight mishap recently, when one of its aircrafts; with registration number 5N BKI skidded off the runway, at the Murtala Muhammed International airport in Lagos, on Tuesday 23rd of April, 2024, after reportedly returning from Abuja that fateful morning. To say that, the incident was a serious safety concern and threat; that requires swift response, is to say the least.

One must commend the Honourable Minister Of Aviation and Aerospace Development, for his promptness in grounding all Dana Air's operations within the country. Such should be the alacrity of nations, who have zest and intelligence for the safety of her citizens.

Without much ado, Many Nigerians must have come to a point where they doubt the integrity and technological reliability of Dana Airlines. This is not farfetched from the lackadaisical attitude of the air operator, and certain antecedents that say no otherwise.

Let me take you just a little down the memory lane! Bethnews Media can still recall very vividly, how Dana Airlines wrecked a gruesome havoc on my neighbourhood some 13 years ago,when one of its aircrafts crashed, around Toyin/Balogun Iju-Road claiming the lives of One Hundred And Fifty-nine (159) persons and destroying several persons homes and means of livelihood.

On that fateful Sunday afternoon of June 3, 2012, at about 2:00pm. Publiser of BethNews Media, Oluwaseun Fabiyi had just returned from church, and because of the hot weather, I sat at the balcony after my meal, only to see an aircraft that swung across my rooftop, as if to perch on it. Gripped with fear, since we had never seen a plane flown so low in our area, we decided to follow up.

Myself and others understood that, all was not well the the aircraft that just past, especially seeing it with that very black fume, and preceded by a very scary screeching and deadly roar.  Before we  could say Jack Robinson, it happened, a Dana Airlines aircraft had just crashed! Everywhere around Toyin Balogun street, off Iju Ishaga road, was already in disarray. Everyone scampered for safety in the unfortunate community.

When an occurrence of this magnitude occurs, sometimes it is excusable to attribute it unforeseen hitch(es), however, such excuses are hardly tenable in airspace operations, since most of the flight activities are strictly monitored via utmost sophistication and near-perfect technical accuracy.

Few months after the Lagos state government had organised a mass burial for the victims of the unfortunate controversial Dana air mishap,the operator was suspended, and directed to show kind gestures to families and businesses affected.

Guess what! Dana Airlines is alleged to have refused, to show concerns, nor put any mechanism in place, to alleviate the sufferings of those who lost lives, properties and millions to the crash. Rather, they clamoured to resume operations.

Surprisingly but not strangely, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) heeded Dana Airlines' plea,to resume operations.  Nigerians must understand and also remember that, the Dana air crash of 3rd June, 2012 remains the deadliest; after that of 1973,where 193 died in Kano.

Imagine what would have happened again, if the last incident resulted in a crash aground or mid air. God forbids, like we always say in Nigeria's parlance!  However, the reality is that, God wouldn't forbid, if we leave what God has given us abilities to avert back to God. It doesn't work that way!

As a matter of urgency, Dana Airline needs to be completely ban from flights operations, since crashes and air mishaps are becoming regular and normal occurrence in their services to Nigerians.  We can't continue to handle the safety of the populace with laxity and levity.

As far as I and many Nigerians are concerned,if the authorities involved continue to play politics, Dana Airline would continue to underestimate Nigerians for long, and the outside world wouldn't take us seriously.

Governor Nasiru Idris of Kebbi State has approved the sum of N309,584,041:80 for payment of foreign scholarship to 86 indigenes of the state studying in India and Egypt.

The State Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji isah Abubakar-Tunga announced this while briefing journalists on the development in his office in Birnin Kebbi.

He said"the sum of N228,150,148:00 is for 63 students studying in India, while N81,433,893:80 is for 23 students studying in Egypt.

"The remaining 50 foreign students shall have their expenses settled within the shortest possible time."

He added that in February 2024, the governor had paid local scholarship to all the state students studying in 36 tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The suspect along side his wife, Tijani Anjolaoluwa were unable to perfect the stringent bail conditions given them by the high court. Thus, they were remanded at the Suleja prison till the next hearing.

Meanwhile, two of the major suspects fingered in the allegation of cyber bullying and cyber stalking of the Chief Executive Officer of Afriq Arbiritage System, Prince Humble Eteng and Engineer Fimienye Awajioma have been arrested by the police.

It would be recalled that the  board of directors of Afriq Arbitrage Systems after an emergency meeting last week condemned in strong terms the attitudes of Prince Humble Otu Eteng, Michael Okoh,  Okoi Daniels, Engineer Awajioma and others about their nefarious activities to injure the longstanding reputation the organisation has maintained and in a final resolution, resolved that the above parties be sued for defamation and  has slammed a ten million dollar lawsuit  with a suit number w/2011/2024 against them at the High court of the Federal capital territory in the Abuja judicial division on Monday, April 15th, 2024 on charges bothering on cyber bullying, attempt to life and property, lies and unlawful incitement and instigation against him, his family and organisation.

Yesterday, Yahaya Bello experienced the biggest embarrassment so far since he started his political career; operatives of the EFCC barricaded his Abuja residence in an attempt to arrest him for financial crimes and it only took the intervention of the current governor of his state, Usman Ododo to rescue him from the hands of the security operatives.

The former governor in a smart move approached the court for an injunction against the EFCC but the agency also immediately secured an arrest warrant against the former governor. Just a few hours ago, the federal government ordered every person invited by the EFCC to submit themselves honorably and meanwhile, EFCC had mentioned that military help would be used to arrest Yahaya Bello if he continues to evade arrest.

All of these happenings have only indicated the readiness of the commission to arrest the former Kogi governor, causing an unprecedented embarrassment for the embattled politician.

On the other hand, Primate Ayodele who is blessed with the gift of prophecy had said in October 2023 that he foresees the arrest of Yahaya Bello. The man of God mentioned that the former governor will be arrested and embarrassed while expressing that he doesn’t think there is any solution for him.
