Having started as a musician years back, Mimmy Tea suddenly took to acting and he has really done well for himself getting roles and interpreting it well. Omokola Oyetunji Olawole, is his real name, but he is well known as Mimmy Tea in the entertainment industry, a name he has been able to carve a niche with.
Speaking with us as regards choosing between music and movie, he
said, “Music
is more lucrative than movie, everyone would want to go for that but I have
passion for both and this has really distinguished me and I will always prefer either of the two.
Though switching to
movie wasn’t a big deal because while I was basically doing music, I featured
in some movies around 2008/2009.”
Having featured in some movies, Mimmy Tea said he hasn’t produced any movie yet but he has played lead roles in some movies and a television series titled ‘ILEKE’ as produced and directed by Kunle Afod.
Mimmy Tea said, “I played the role of the last born in a family of five in ILEKE. I was a son of a certified Administrator and a certified Nurse who refused to further his education all because he wanted to be a musician.
But in reality, this is me; my name is Omokola Oyetunji Olawole. I am a graduate of Quantity Surveying/Building Technology, from Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke. I graduated as the Social Director Student Union Government (S.U.G) and served as my Platoon Leader in Kastina, during my NYSC days in 2007.
“I started music at a tender age. I used to mime to songs from my favorite musician then. This includes the likes of Shaggy and Wyclef. I recorded my first song in 2003 but came to limelight in 2007 after recording my first hit single titled ‘Oloju Ede’, that was how the journey began. Then in 2009, I did ‘Obama Nwami’ featuring Danny Young, 2010, I did ‘Mafoju Keremi’ featuring Klever Jay. I have collaboration with Terry G, Jahbless and Frank D’Nero too.”
Mimmy Tea in his response to finding a feet for himself in a profession where there are many great talents said, “My strength is God! It is only God that makes one relevant. Being where I am today is nothing but hard work and God’s grace. I rely wholeheartedly on Him and that is the key to my success. Also, my profound appreciation goes to some wonderful directors that have stood by me from day one. Kayode Adebayo, (Kay Alubarika) has been a big shot in my movie career. Kunle Afod, remains a boss I will never forget in my autobiography. I also appreciate the likes of Murphy Afolabi, Sheyi Ariyo (Shebaby), to mention but few.”
He stressed further that, “When I was in overseas, I didn’t
communicate much with the Nigerian Entertainment because it wasn’t easy for me.
Not until I relocated back home before things fell back in place. Now, I
am fully based in Nigeria. I don’t have a second thought about this. Visiting
abroad would only be for vacations or studies in
case I choose to study professional courses in the future.”
Being handsome with great talents, Mimmy Tea said, “Am I really good looking? Haha! Well, I don’t see that as criteria to get roles. I have always put in my best in my craft and it is working for me.
Explaining how he got the name, Mimmy Tea, he said, “The name was coined out from ‘mo mu tea’ meaning ‘I drank tea’. Growing up as a little boy, I loved to drink tea a lot, so when my father asked what I ate, while trying to say ‘mo mu tea’ I do ended up saying mimi tea, so I later decided to go by the name ‘Mimmy Tea’ choosing my own spelling way.”
Managing his stardom and keeping in touch with his teeming fans, he said, “Connecting with my fans, social media has made it easy as we get in touch with one another via Instagram DMs, comment section and via whatsapp, depending on the relationship involved. We have been getting along well. Fans can follow me on @mimmytea.” He said.
