Kebbi Customs intercepts N91.5m goods, petrol from smugglers

The Nigerian Customs Service, Kebbi State Command has intercepted 8,975 litres of petrol loaded in 25 litre jerricans and bales of used clothes worth N91.5m from suspected smugglers.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Ben Oramalugo while addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Birnin Kebbi said the goods were intercepted at Kamba area of the state.

He said other goods intercepted include 74 cartons of bleaching cream, 110 solar batteries, 105 cartons of medicine, seven used vehicles and one tanker truck he said were used to smuggled the contrabands into the country.

"It is disheartening that despite the humongous amount paid by government to make PMS available to citizens at a reasonable price, some unscrupulous citizens choose to divert the product to our neighbouring countries for their selfish financial benefits", he said.

He added that the command is equipped to carry out its duty as enshrined in the Customs and Excise Management Act.
