Speaking today in Ogba, Lagos, at the 2022 edition of the Eledumare festival, Iba Adams, stated further that many of the present crops of politicians are too detached from the people they serve or lead.
He maintained also that many of the politicians, especially, in the southwest couldn't re-invent the glorious moments of the southwest region.
"Since 1999 when the so-called nascent democracy began, strange thinking and ideologies have become the lot of the politicians".
Our politicians become moneybags overnight and monetize their ways into elective positions,"
"This was not the practice during the Awolowo's years. In the past, you cannot buy the electorate.No matter the amount of money you put on the table. You can not buy their conscience and mortgage their future",
"The Yoruba of those years are very articulate. You cannot deceive them twice. Yoruba of those years have their orientation and they believe in what you can put on the table in terms of programs or manifestoes. They can only give you their votes when they are sure that their future is well secured and guaranteed",
"The four cardinal areas of interest to them include free health, free education, infrastructure, and social welfare as well as their well being"
"But at this stage of our political lives, things have changed. We have politicians who are driven by deceit and lies. There are some unseen evil spirits that dwell in their minds,"
"This unseen evil spirit gives them the audacity to believe that they can mortgage our future and get away with it"
"However, at this juncture, I think there is a need for us to pray and seek the face of God, Eledumare to consecrate their minds and rid them of unseen evil spirits and machinations,"
The Yoruba generalissimo said OPC has a better understanding of how to praise God, saying the reason for celebrating the Eledumare festival for 21 days is to appreciate God for the gift of life.
He said the group has explored all the opportunities to make the festival historic.
Meanwhile, The guest lecturer, Dr.Micheal Oni, a senior researcher on African studies from the University of Lagos spoke on the topic: Religion and Tradition: Complement or Contrast.
He spoke on how best to use the Yoruba tradition to complement the various religious beliefs, adding that Yoruba tradition is next to none.
"Let us appreciate the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba for taking the giant stride in the cultural promotion. Yoruba is blessed and prominent people like Aare Gani Adams have been assigned by God to project the Yoruba culture to the global community",
Osi Aareonakakanfo of Yoruba land, Gani Kayode Balogun urged all members of the OPC to look beyond today.
Royal father of the day, Oba Fatusi expressed joy at the efforts of OPC under Iba Gani Adams
"What you are doing today is beyond the present moment. As the Aare had said, there are rewards for consistency and by the time the rewards come, you will all be marvel at the grace of God".
Other guests present at the event include the Alaige of Orilee Agege Oba Akeem Ambali Agbedeyi, members of the OPC National Executive Council, and the National Coordinating Council.
