Boy, 19 Faces Trial In Akure For Raping 8 Year Old Minor

A 19-year-old man, Babatunde Bobola has been remanded at the

 Correctional Centre, in Akure, Ondo State, for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl.

His remand followed an order given by an Akure Magistrates Court

The defendant was allegedly arrested by the men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency for allegedly committing the crime in Akure on March 24, 2022.

Bobola was charged to court and arraigned on one count of rape.

The State Prosecutor, O.F Akeredolu told the court that the defendant had carnal knowledge of the victim.

The charge read in part: “That you, Babatunde Bobola, on or about March 24, 2022, at about 16:00 hours, at Odige Street, Akure, a place within the criminal jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did have carnal knowledge of, an eight-year-old girl.”

According to the prosecutor, the offenses contravene Sections 357 and 358 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Given the nature of the offense against the defendant, Akeredolu prayed for an order to remand him at the correctional center, which was supported by an affidavit.

The defendant pleaded not guilty but his plea was not taken.

The Magistrate, N.K. Aladejana remanded the defendant in the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending the insurance of legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution. He adjourned the case till June 13, 2022, for further mention.
