Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams has urged the six governors of the southwest to draw inspiration from the development in Poland, saying the Polish identified the missing links by embracing their culture, tradition, and heritage.
Speaking at the 2021 edition of the Elegbara festival in Shasha, Egbeda, Lagos on Tuesday, Iba Gani Adams expressed worry that Yoruba land and the Southwest region, in particular, had failed to identify the missing links in the way the region handles its affair.
"I feel bad that there are some missing links in the way we handle our culture, tradition, and heritage.
I feel bad that there are some missing links in the way we handle our traditional institutions".
"There are some missing links in the way we play our politics. There are some missing links in the way we handle our educational institutions and security in the southwest. And until we go back to our root, we can hardly find the missing links"
The Yoruba generalissimo cited the rate of progress and transformation in Poland, adding that the Polish infrastructure deficit was worse than that of Nigeria in the 80s, saying the turning point of the European country became evident with the way the Polish embraces its culture and tradition.
"The Polish infrastructure was even worse than that of Nigeria in 1981. That was about 40 years ago. But the story of their infrastructural deficit now changed tremendously because of their determination to
respect and embrace their culture and tradition",
"Today, Poland can easily be compared with other developed countries in Europe and the entire world because of their tremendous transformation. The polish identified the missing links in their culture, tradition, and heritage. They went back to their root and embrace what is truly important to them as a people", he said.
Urging the southwest governors to embrace the Yoruba culture, Iba Adams pointed out that the Elegbara festival has the potentials to boost the tourism sector.
"Celebrating the Yoruba festival is part of our culture, and culture is an integral part of our being. As we continue to project and promote the Yoruba cultural heritage, we need to also tell those that didn't know much about Elegbara, the truth about one of the most respected deities in heaven and on earth",
Meanwhile, the royal host, Oba Babatunde. Nasiru Lawal, the Ariwajoye /Akinlowo, eulogized the enduring spirit of the Yoruba generalissimo, maintaining that the ability to sustain the festivals for the past two decades remains one of the best qualities of the the great leader.
"I want to appreciate Aare Gani Adams for his effort to sustain the festival and several others for over two decades. Such spirit remains the guiding principle of a great leader. I want to also urge all our traditional rulers to support initiatives that have to do with the core Yoruba culture and tradition".
Other guests at the event include Alaguda of Aguda kingdom, Oba Saibu Agbaosi, culture promoters as well as all members of the National Executive Council, And National Coordinating Council of the Oodua Peoples Congress among others.
