Hajia Sherifat Okende a.k.a Gba f'Olorun, an indegene of Ilesa in Osun state is set to release another inspiring lyrical gospel music as plans to involve her role model, Alhaja Hafsat Sideeq, Ola Fatia in her new project progresses.
Gba f'Olorun said, "This is a special project that I will feature a leader whose role in Islamic music can never be undermined. Alhaja Hafsat Sideeq has always been a musician I adore and respect so much, coming out with her in a new form will be of great feat to me and my fans across the globe.
Also, Sherifat in her words has described her advent in Islamic music as a call she enjoys when she sees people being happy during her performance.
“My talent in
music is a gift from God, I did not train under anybody but it could be traced
to my mother, she was a good singer, she got a very good voice but not a
professional musician.
“I have been
in music for over 30 years, but professionally, its 20 years now. I enjoy my
husband’s full support on the call because he believes so much in me and this
really has helped me on the job. I have been in music before I got married, and
taking it up professionally was a decision I took with my hubby.”
Gba f’Olorun in
her words stressed further that, “Having agreed with my husband to go into it
fully, I released my first album, AYELABOLA, followed by Igbeyawo Alarinrirn,
the third is Ojo Ayo mi, while the fourth is Gba f’Olorun and we are in
preparation for another album with a notable Islamic songstress, one of our
leaders in the industry. We are working on the project, and it will soon be in
the open.”
Today, many
entertainers are into different business to sustain themselves, Okesina is
among those that believed in doing other business to support music. She said, “Besides
music, I am a civil servant, I work with Ilesa west Local Government. Being in Ilesa in Osun state, I am into so
many things to make end meet, I am a civil servant, I am a musician and an
anchor of wedding engagement. God has been very wonderful to me and my husband
too has been very wonderful supportive to my cause and we are really
progressing and the success has been very great because I dont joke with my home.
“I was once
advised to relocate to Lagos to pursue my musical career, but my God is
everywhere. Today, I have grown up kids that are graduate and doing this trade
here, is fine as well.”
Reacting to
her vision in a couple of years, she said, “My vision in another five years is
to have my music in every household, I want to be people’s choice when you talk
of good music with great messages.
My advice to
those coming up, perseverance is very important, you need to believe in
yourself and be hopeful of a better tomorrow. Those that are up already should be
supportive to those that are struggling to get their feet. Consistency is very
important in the act of any trade, you need to be consistent to progress.
“I have someone I have always looked up to as a role model in the industry among Islamic Act. Alhaja Hafsat As-Sideeq’s style plays a major role in my concept as an Islamic Act. Consultation is in place on featuring her in my new album, I want to tell my fans, its going to be an every green songs.
“There are happy moment and some times there are moment when I feel very unhappy, that is how it is in every business. I could remember when I had a performance in Ikire, it was a good one, we gave people a dual service, I anchored the wedding engagement and at the reception, we performed as well. People really enjoyed our service and that made my day. Also, there was a day we got to an engagement, our musical instrument developed fault and we could not do any meaningful performance, I felt so bad, but we are grateful to God, because we are progressing.” She concluded.
