The All Progressives Congress (APC) in kebbi State on Friday condemned questions posed by the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) on the finances of the administration of Governor Nasir Idris, saying it's for the state's developmental projects.
While addressing journalists at the party office on Friday, the state chairman of APC Adamu Mudi Augie said the ADC devoted almost entirely it's time and energy questioning the state finances and where the money went to in a state now dotted with roads, schools, hospitals, housing estates, irrigation support and other people-oriented projects on a scale Kebbi has not seen in a generation.
He said "It is an insult to the intelligence of the people of Kebbi, who know what the state looked like before 29 May 2023 and what it looks like today under Governor Idris administration. The people of Kebbi are not blind. They can see where public money has gone. Under Governor Nasir Idris".
He added that virtually every sector has been touched on roads and urban renewal, the administration has dualised the Birnin Kebbi- Ambursa Road, expanded, beautified and provided with solar powered streetlight across Birnin Kebbi, Yauri, and other centres, completed and furnished the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ultra-Modern Secretariat Complex inherited from the previous administration, and advanced work on the Koko-Mahuta-Dabai Road, Argungu Old Bypass, Ahmadu Bello Way in Gwandu and other critical links, Drainage, solar street lighting and public-space upgrades have followed.
He said hundreds of primary and secondary schools have been rehabilitated and new ones built. Mega boarding schools focused on science and skills have been established in Birnin Kebbi, Argungu, Yauri and Zuru. More than a million textbooks have been procured. Over 2,000 teachers have been recruited. "The College of Nursing Sciences and related tertiary institutions have received renewed attention, furniture, ICT support and institutional backing and a new College of Midwifery Sciences Ambursa . On health, 30 general hospitals and primary healthcare centres across the state have been renovated and upgraded", he said.
He added that these are the facts on the ground. And when Governor Idris sought the mandate of the people, he promised to be fair, accountable, development-driven and responsible with the trust placed in him.
"Three years on, the record is there for any honest observer to inspect. To ask where did the money go?" in the midst of this volume of delivery is not accountability. It is a disservice to the people of Kebbi State.
"We invite the ADC to debate performance, not to invent a fiscal mystery where the evidence of expenditure is already visible in every local government", the APC chairman said.
