The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a notorious “One Chance” robbery syndicate and recovered an operational tricycle allegedly used for criminal activities across parts of the state.
The suspects were apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by police operatives along Iyana Ipaja Road.
According to the Command, officers intercepted a tricycle conveying three occupants for a search during which one of the passengers was found in possession of three Android phones suspected to have been stolen from unsuspecting commuters.
Police said that while the search was ongoing, the tricycle rider suddenly sped off, abandoning the remaining occupants at the scene. One of the passengers, identified as Ademola Ibrahim, was immediately arrested.
During interrogation, Ibrahim allegedly confessed to being a member of a “One Chance” robbery syndicate known for dispossessing unsuspecting passengers of their valuables, especially mobile phones, in Idimu, Iyana-Ipaja, Egbeda and Dopemu areas of Lagos State.
Further investigation later led to the arrest of the fleeing tricycle rider, identified as 26-year-old Raheem Lawal. Police also recovered the operational tricycle with registration number SMK 309 QP allegedly used by the suspects.
The Command disclosed that two victims who had earlier reported incidents of “One Chance” robbery along the affected axis positively identified the suspects as members of the gang and also identified their stolen phones recovered from the suspects.
Police authorities added that investigations were ongoing to arrest other members of the criminal syndicate and bring them to justice.
Reiterating the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, assured residents that intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention strategies and continuous raids against criminal elements would be sustained to ensure security across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with officers during stop-and-search operations while supporting the police with timely and credible information through the Command’s emergency lines.
