Former Minister of Interior and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign over what he described as worsening insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria.
Aregbesola made the call on Tuesday while speaking at the ongoing ADC National Convention in Abuja, where he also criticised Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, describing it as a scam.
In his address, the former Osun State governor accused the current administration of failing to deliver on its promises, particularly in addressing economic challenges and improving security across the country.
He argued that the rising cost of living, worsening exchange rates, and increasing fuel prices have placed significant strain on Nigerians, making daily life increasingly difficult for many citizens.
Aregbesola also expressed concern over the state of infrastructure, especially electricity supply, claiming that many parts of the country now experience only a few hours of power daily, with some areas plunged into prolonged darkness.
On insecurity, he condemned the spate of violent attacks across the country, stating that the situation reflects a failure on the part of the Federal Government. He further alleged that the administration has shown insufficient empathy in responding to national tragedies.
The ADC chieftain also raised concerns about the education sector, noting an increase in the number of out-of-school children, as well as the growing level of poverty nationwide.
He urged Nigerians to support the ADC’s “rescue mission,” aimed at addressing the country’s challenges and reclaiming governance from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Aregbesola stressed that the country could not afford to continue on what he described as a path of decline, calling on citizens to take decisive action in shaping Nigeria’s political future.
