The northern elders and others in position of authority have been called upon to create the synergy on how to tackle insecurity and poverty bedeviling the north.
The Northern Elders Political Development Group, in a communique signed by its national coordinator, Malam Yusuf Abubakar at the end of its 10th meeting in Birnin kebbi, to discuss national issues and matters arising from the north, particularly urged the state governments of Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto and Katsina to concentrate more on insecurity bothering their states.
"We called on security agents to investigate activities of some politicians calling on the US President to invade Nigeria and create instability among the populace through mischief, lies and propaganda against the country", the elders said.
The elders also called on the traditional rulers and religious leaders to unite the people and evolve ways to instill discipline in the youth and stop the abuse of social media to create tension that may plunge the country into jeopardy. "Now is the appropriate time to do so instead of engaging in acrimony and politicizing security issues", they said.
The elders in the communique also called on the DSS to invite Senator Kabiru Marafa on his desire for the US to invade the country. We consider this as sheer unpatriotic stance. "We called on the Immigration department to hastily seize his passport before he plunge the nation in an unnecessary situation", they said.
The group commended the federal government efforts in fighting insecurity through operation Fasan Yamma and other numerous strategies being carried out by the national security adviser, Nuhu Ribadu and the state minister of defence, Bello Mutawalle.
