Lagos, Nigeria – October 2, 2025 — The Lagos State Police Command has commenced full enforcement of regulations on tinted vehicle glass across the state, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM.
According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the exercise—which began today—is aimed at enhancing public safety, reducing criminal activities, and ensuring compliance with road safety laws.
Vehicle owners with tinted windows are now required to obtain the appropriate Tinted Glass Permit via the official portal: www.possap.gov.ng. Those without valid permits are advised to either remove the tints or replace factory-fitted tinted glasses with transparent ones, as stipulated under the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004.
Offenders found with tinted windows and no permit risk having their vehicles impounded and face prosecution.
While reiterating the importance of professionalism during the operation, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, directed all field officers and their supervisors to conduct stop-and-search exercises without harassment or extortion. He further warned that officers found guilty of misconduct will face disciplinary action, and their supervisors held accountable.
“The goal of this enforcement is not to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to ensure the safety and security of all Lagos residents,” CP Jimoh stated. He also encouraged motorists to always carry essential vehicle documents and cooperate with officers during routine checks.
