Ibadan, Oyo State – As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, frontline aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK), has rolled out another empowerment initiative targeted at strengthening small-scale businesses and grassroots livelihoods across the state.
Dr. Kareem, who has consistently emphasized his commitment to grassroots development, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, announced an additional ₦5 million non-interest loan scheme for members of his political movement and loyal party foot soldiers across the three senatorial districts of Oyo State.
According to him, the scheme is designed to empower market women, artisans, traders, petty business owners, and SMEs who form the backbone of the state’s economy. He stressed that the initiative was not just an economic gesture but also a deliberate political strategy to foster participation, loyalty, and collective responsibility within the APC.
“True progress cannot be achieved without addressing the needs of those at the grassroots. Their growth is the key to lifting millions out of poverty. This new loan initiative is another way of putting resources in the hands of our people to help them thrive,” Dr. Kareem stated.
In a move seen as both strategic and reformative, Dr. Kareem outlined new eligibility conditions for beneficiaries, including: possession of a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) or proof of registration, attendance at a minimum of two AKK meetings, and participation in at least one APC ward meeting.
The aspirant explained that these requirements were aimed at encouraging political awareness, ensuring accountability, and building a united front for the tasks ahead of 2027.
He further praised beneficiaries of previous loan batches for their discipline in repayment, which has allowed more members to benefit from the revolving fund. Those who repaid faithfully, he noted, would now have access to higher loan amounts.
Dr. Kareem assured supporters that if elected as Governor in 2027, such empowerment schemes would be institutionalized at the state level, backed with greater resources and stricter oversight, to ensure sustainable growth and poverty reduction.
“The PVC remains the most powerful tool in shaping good governance. By tying empowerment to active political participation, we are preparing a community of engaged citizens who will not only benefit from development but also safeguard it,” he added.
The rollout of the ₦5 million loan is expected to commence in September 2025, with registration and validation already set to begin.
Dr. Kareem, popularly called AKK, closed his announcement by reaffirming his readiness to serve Oyo State with integrity, compassion, and purpose, urging members of the party to stay committed as the march towards Oyo 2027 intensifies.
