Kebbi Govt Affirms Commitment To PLWDs Welfares, As Leprosy Mission Distributes Empowerment Tools

Kebbi State Government has said it remain committed to the welfares and employment of persons living with disabilities.

Speaking during the distribution of working tools to persons living with disabilities trained in different skills by the Leprosy Mission Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Halima Hassan Kamba said the state government would continue to extend its hands of benevolence to the PLWDs because it sees them the same way it's sees other persons.

"That's why Governor Nasir Idris created the Persons Living With Disability Commission for their welfare, empowerment and progress", she said.

She added that the Governor's wife  Hajiya Zainab Nasare has been assisting them and empowering them across the four emirates in the state. "This administration runs a government of inclusion and will continue to give the PLWDs their rights and privileges".

Earlier, the Director Leprosy Mission Nigeria, Dr Sunday Udoh represented by Dr Opeyemi Ojomu said the mission is committed to the empowerment and development of the PLWDS in the country and it has enjoyed support from states where it has offered opportunities for the PLWDs.

A representative of the Human Right Initiative, Liatu Bamaiyi in her remarks said the initiative would continue to support the PLWDs to make good use of the tools given to them to excel in their respective endeavours. "I will encourage you to make good use of the tools given to you, don't sell them.The one you have at hand is better than begging", she said. 

The chairman of the Disability Commission, Anas Malami Gwandu in his address commended the Leprosy Mission Nigeria over it's continued support and assistance to persons living with disabilities. "Your efforts is line with the mission of the commission", he said.

While expressing his appreciation to the Leprosy Mission Nigeria, one of the beneficiaries, Abubakar Ahmed, trained in the welding skill enjoined other beneficiaries to take advantage of the training and tools given to them for their welfare and progress.
