Kebbi Govt Reactivates Technical Working Group On HIV/ AIDS

Governor Nasir Idris ( Kauran Gwandu ) of Kebbi State has reactivated the State Technical Working Group on Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV /AIDS .


Before the administration of Kauran Gwandu came on board, the state Agency for the Control of AIDS(SACA) was dormant but as a foremost unionist, Dr Idris took the bull by the horn, reactivated SACA by first inaugurating the STWG to support its activities in the state.


While inaugurating the STWG on behalf of the Governor, the State Commissioner for Health, Comrade Yunusa Musa Ismail ( Dallatun Birnin Yauri ) expressed sertisfaction with the calibre personalities in the membership of the Group. He charged them to function diligently and effectively. "I'm sure that mother to Child HIV transmission will certainly reduce going by the pedigree and reputation of those in the group",he said


The commissioner assured the group of government unwavering commitment and continued support of Dr Nasir Idris led administration to ensure reduction in the transmission of HIV /AIDS particularly on mother to child in kebbi State.


Also Speaking, the Project Manager SACA, Alhaji Usman Muhammad Magoro said the meeting was organized as part of efforts to develop a document that will guide the STWG on their roles and responsibilities on the spread of HIV AIDS in Kebbi State.



Magoro said the committee will serve as a backbone towards ensuring enabling environment, budget release and reduction of HIV transmission in Kebbi State. He observed that the committee would work to ensure prevention, treatment of those infected and viral suppression of those on treatment so that the State will meet the global target of 95, 95, 95 by 2030.


He thanked the State Government for inclusion of SACA in the State budget while appealing for it's timely release while calling on people living with HIV AIDS to encourage government to sign Stigma and Discrimination Law as signed by many states in the country.


In his address, Mr Christopher Agada of the State Health System Strengthening Lead Advisor of Health System Consult Limited HSCL, said they are partnering Kebbi State Government to reactivate STWG on HIV /AIDS to strengthen HIV coordination platforms and response in the state. He called on the State Government to key into activities supporting the eradication of HIV to own the process and sustain the HIV response towards reducing the it's epidemic in the state.



In their separate remarks, the state lead team, Lead for Society For Family Health, USAID, Kebbi Care 2 project, Tijjani Suleiman said SOFH would work with SACA to ensure that the state population get holistic approach in terms of targeting every individual, community, the key population and vulnerable children get access to HIV treatment and prevention services.


The representative of Pro-Health International, Hajiya Ibaida Tukur assured of their readiness to support the fight against HIV /AIDS among Orphans and vulnerable children in the state.


The Committee comprises of representatives from the line Ministries, Religious Leaders, CSOs, Security Agencies, Development Partners, and Association of People living with HIV and AIDS among others.
