Customs intercept N42m contrabands in Kebbi

The joint patrol team of sector 4, northwest zone of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted contrabands worth N42,429,63 at various border points in kebbi State.


The items seized are 971,500 foreign packaging materials worth N32,088,037.31 meant to be transported to Niger republic, 16 bales of used second hand clothes, valued at N5,284,700.00, 95 cartoons of foreign sphagetti worth N1,192,360.44 and 65 Jerry cans of vegetable oil which duty value is N3,864,436.88.


While briefing journalists at the NCS command in Birnin Kebbi, the joint patrol team Coordinator, Comptroller Kola Oladeji said the goods were being prepared to leave the country for Niger and Benin Republics when they were intercepted at various border points in Yauri, Ambursa, Beli in Bunza and Bagudo waterside area of the state.



He said because the borders are closed in accordance with ECOWAS directive, the smugglers have resulted to moving the goods out to locations with motorcycles from where they load them into waiting vehicles.


"I want them to know that NCS is ready to assist traders that are doing legimitmate business and clampdown on illegal ones because they are constituting neausance to government", he said.
