Kebbi govt to involve legion in tackling security challenges donates N20m

Kebbi State Government has said it would include men of the Nigeria Legion and other retired security officers to tackle security challenges occasioned by banditry in the state.


The Deputy Governor, Abubakar Umar Tafida who represented Governor Nasiru Idris at the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal Week at the Cabinet Office in Birnin Kebbi on Friday said Governor Nasiru Idris has directed that the legions and other retired officers of the various security agencies be included in the security operations to tackle banditry in the state.


He said, "The legion is a rallying point of veterans and gallant officers of the Nigerian Army. Government is ready to give them the necessary support".


While announcing the sum of N20m as a donation to the legions, the Governor said his administration would look into their requests for land allocation to build their office in Birnin Kebbi and would also provide Hajj seats to their members.



Earlier, the legion chairman in the state, Alhaji Garba Hassan Suru urged the government to assist the families of the fallen heroes in the state. 


He said the legion in Kebbi State has over 1,800 members with over 15,000 widows of those who sacrificed their lives while defending the country.
