Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams said at the weekend that the investment of the Oodua People's Congress (OPC) through the Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF) in the development of both human and material resources is now yielding positive results across Yorubaland.
Speaking yesterday in Ikeja, Lagos, at the Miss Olokun Beauty Pageant, as part of the programmes for the ongoing Olokun Festival,Iba Adams reflected on the beginning of the project, saying Miss Olokun started about 18 years ago with many of the winners becoming global ambassadors and doing wonders in their respective disciplines.
Aare Adams,who is also the chief promoter of OFF said events like the beauty pageants are centred on exploring the beauty and the intellectual capacity of the contestants,noting that developing human capacity and material resources remains the greatest achievements of the organization.
"OPC has succeeded in investing in our young ladies through the beauty Pageant.We explore their beauty and brain,build their confidence and their capacity to influence the society positively and the results we get annually have been awesome.
"Also, our investments in real estate and buildings like the Oodua House and other facilities are the enduring legacies of our organization.
"So,apart from the Yoruba cultural promotion projects,we are doing other projects that,in no long time, will become visible for the future of our race.
The beauty pageant was a keenly contested encounter between the 20 contestants that contested for the coveted prize, however, Miss
Adeyeye Damilola Awake emerged as the winner of the 2023 edition of Miss Olokun Queen, while Miss Olayiwola Oluwatomisin Hannah was the first runners up and Miss Folorunsho Oluwadunsin came third at the highly contested event.
In her remarks, Awake expressed her appreciation to the foundation for providing the platform and opportunity for young, brilliant ladies to showcase their beauty, character and intelligence, saying such opportunity will add value to the beauty pageant and boost individual's courage and morale.
"I feel excited to be crowned as the 2023 Miss Olokun Queen.It is a new beginning and I promise to be a good ambassador of the pageant.
"It is my hope to make the best use of this opportunity by making sure I use my position to market and add value to the Olokun brand.
"However, I will make my future plans known to the organizers as soon as possible.
Prominent guests present at the event include the Osi Aare Ona kakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Kayode Balogun,Atoloye Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Babajide Tanimowo,Bareejiro AareOnakakanfo,Chief Dauda Asikolaiye,Dr. Busola Odedina who is the Director from the Lagos state Council for Arts and Culture and Engineer Ramon Awolaja, member of the Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) from Luxembourg.
Others are the Managing Director, Coil Tech Nigeria Limited, Mr.Walid Alghadban, Managing Director and Partner,We-Build Construction Limited,Mr.Alaa Al-Abdalla and the Manager We-Build Construction Limited,Mr.Rabiee Jourdieh,present and former queens of OFF and members of the National Executive Council (NEC) and National Coordinating Council (NCC) were also in attendance
