The Kebbi State Contributory healthcare management agency (Kechema) has said its targeting five million and half population of enrollees in the next five years. The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Muhammed Jafar Augie while addressing journalists on the activities of the scheme made the disclosure.
"He said five and half millions of people of kebbi State are our target population in the next five years". He added that the scheme has adopted a strategic enrollment plan and it's sticking to it.
Dr Augie stated that what Kechema needs is for the Kebbi public to understand that section 10 of Kechema law has made it mandatory for people to key into the scheme just as the section 14 of national health insurance act had made it compulsory for Nigerians to key into the national healthcare program. "People should come forward and enroll to enjoy the benefits of the healthcare scheme.", he said.
He stated that more than 85 people are being operated free of charge every month at various facilities under the scheme and more than 10,000 pregnant women had been delivered at the 122 health facilities of Kechema in the state.
He said the contributory healthcare agency within two years of its establishment has 122 primary healthcare centres, 29 general hospitals and13 private hospitals under its operations.
"Before we had 161,800 enrollees but now we have 87,897 active enrollees and we are still counting. The local government formal sector enrollment is on going. The number increases by the day", he said.
He said the non release of equity funds by the local governments is a major challenge to the scheme because not everyone in kebbi such as vulnerable which includes children and aged ones can pay for themselves.
"The local government contributions is very critical for the success of the scheme but it's not forthcoming as provided in section 15 of Kechema law", he said.
