Kebbi council chairman impeached over alleged mismanagement of LG revenue, N50m wards project funds

The chairman of Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Alhaji Shamsudden Faruk has been impeached. 


A statement jointly signed by speaker and secretary of the council, Hon. Dahiru Shehu and Faruk Aliyu said the decision to impeach the council chairman was taken at the council's meeting held on Tuesday at the Local Government Secretariat in Kalgo by seven out of 10 councillors which translate to two third majority that voted for his removal.


It said Alhaji Shehu was impeached over alleged mismanagement of the local government revenue, N50m wards project funds, failure to hold council's meeting as provided by law, mismanagement of overhead cost meant for the running of the local government affairs and withholding of salaries of the local government staff.


The statement added that " having had due consultation and given the LG chairman opportunity to defend himself against allegations of gross misconduct the council was not satisfied with the explanation made by the council chairman.


"The council in pursuant to the powers conferred on them by section 19 (2) of Kebbi State Local Government Laws 2008 had resolved to impeach the council chairman".


Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Secretary to State Government,Speaker of Kebbi State House of Assembly, Chairman Local Government Services Commission, Commissioner of Kebbi State Police Command and Director State Security Service were served with copies of the resolution of the council to impeach the local government chairman.


The Vice Chairman for Kalgo Local Government, Hon. Shehu Sandare has been appointed as acting chairman for the council.
