Oba Dr. Adetokunbo Tejuosho, the Olu Orile Kemta, in Ogun State, has sued for calm over the scarcity of fuel and Naira notes stirring anger amongst sections of the populace, .
In a press statement made available to journalist by Ayotunde Ogundiran, his media aide, His Majesty, Oba Tejuosho appealed to the aggrieved Nigerians, especially youths, to exercise patience and be calm for a few more days so as to allow the new designed Naira notes to be well circulated.
He also called for calm, as the NNPC assures the evacuation, distribution, and circulation of over 450 million liters of PMS, otherwise known as petrol, to fuel stations across the nation.
The monarch also charged commercial bank operators to intensify swift distribution of the new notes in order to dissipate the tension and suffering been faced by the public.
“With a deep fatherly sense of concern, I share your grief and pain over the last few days of scarcity of new naira notes and PMS, a situation that has frustrated us all and crippled many businesses across our nation,” he said.
“I want to appeal to you our youths across Ogun State and Nigeria at large to bear with the government and allow smooth swap of the currencies and distribution of the PMS substance in a matter of days to come.
“To our youths, I can feel your pains and agony in the last few days or weeks. Please, let us exercise patience on the currency swap policy, let me also call on the apex bank (the Central Bank of Nigeria) not to relent in their joint monitoring exercise with the team of security outfits like ICPC, EFCC and the likes to ensure strict compliance by the commercial banks in other for adequate and religious distribution of the new Naira notes across the canter and the teller machines.”
He added: “Our people are suffering. I appeal and charge all concerned duty officers at every position or the other to please put more effort in order to restore calmness to our known peaceful gateway state. Ogun state is known for peace and harmony, but this suffering has frustrated our law abiding youths to start acting violently.”
Oba Tejuosho also called on the federal government and all agencies concerned to please do something as a matter of urgency to ease the suffering of Nigerians.
“There is so much unrest going on at the moment,” he said. “So I want to appeal to all and sundry to be calm and shun violence, anger, and curdle peace while in togetherness finding a lasting solution to the issues of new naira notes and fuel scarcity.”
