Few Hours To Election: Kebbi PDP says APC, Police clamping down on members... It's not true- APC

From Ismail Adebayo, Birnin Kebbi

Barely two days to the presidential and national assembly elections the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Kebbi State has alleged a clampdown on its members by the ruling APC administration and police in the state.

While addressing journalists at his residence in Birnin Kebbi, the Chairman Presidential Campaign Council of the PDP and former minister of defense, Dr. Bello Haliru alleged that 20 prominent members of the party are currently in police custody on the order of the ruling party.

The former national chairman of PDP, flanked by senator Adamu Aliero, former minister of sports, Alhaji Samaila Sambawa, and other top PDP leaders called for the immediate release of members of the party that are being held in the state.

Reacting, the APC Public Relations officer in the state, Malam Isa Assalafi said the allegations by the PDP is not true. "APC is not in charge of the security architecture of the state. Besides, this is the first time we are hearing about this.

" If they have any complaints they should either contact the commissioner of police or the director of DSS", he said.

But the Chairman of the PDP presidential campaign council explained that the 20 party members are being held in prison for no reason. "This is a clear victimization of the PDP in Kebbi State by the ruling APC over the fear of their failure in coming elections.

"With this victimization to the opposition, it shows that people of Kebbi State would have no right to choose candidates of their choice during the forthcoming general elections".

Dr. Halliru called on the state government to immediately order the release of all PDP members being held "Else we would go to the police headquarters in Abuja and as well take all steps to get justice for them".

While urging supporters of the party to be law-abiding before, during, and after the elections He called on the security agencies in the state to be neutral during the general elections.

The former PDP national chairman called on supporters to vote for PDP from top to bottom in the forthcoming general elections.
