The Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) in collaboration with IHP/USAID on Tuesday begins a two-day training program to educate stakeholders and media practitioners on healthcare financing concepts and how it operates in the state.

The training program holding in Sokoto was part of IHP's support to KECHEMA in ensuring effective operationalization of its scheme to create awareness of the state contributory healthcare.

Speaking at the workshop, Executive Secretary of KECHEMA, Dr. Jafar Mohammad-Augie, said the agency has the mandate to provide affordable out-of-pocket health services to the people of Kebbi State.

He said, “Our intention is to find the best healthcare services possible for the civil servants, retirees, workers in the organized formal sector, and our students studying in various tertiary institutions in the state".

The executive secretary of the agency said the rationale behind the training program was to deepen knowledge and understanding of participants in healthcare financing concepts and as well deepen understanding of labour union and its affiliates on key health insurance operations and processes. "Including formal sector participation to develop a roadmap for the enrollment of the sector into the Kebbi Contributory healthcare scheme", he said.

He added that the training workshop would acquaint the stakeholders and media with the services offered by the agency in Kebbi State and would address their concerns.

Stakeholders at the two-day workshop comprise labour unions, media, Civil Society Organizations, and health professionals.
