How I Planned To Make FUBK Strike Free, For Academic Excellence -New V.C

From Ismail Adebayo, Birnin Kebbi

The new Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, Professor Muhammad Zaiyan Umar has said part of his plans in making the institution one of the best in the country is to make it strike free.

Professor Umar said strike action should not be the last resort because there are other openings ASSU can explore to meet it's demands. "In this university we have to strategies and look inward for possible ways to go about meeting our demands without embarking on strike.

"I will engage ASSU and other non teaching staff unions of the University to adopt a strike rancor free institution.

"Unions of the University are partners in progress and would be engaged to achieve the set mandate by the management of FUBK. This mandate surpassed any group or individual interests", he said.

The former vice chancellor of Sokoto state university while unveiling his transformation agenda for FUBK during interactive session with journalists said upon taking over as new vice chancellor of the institution he had set up a 3 man committee to access the level of coverage of academic activities of the University for the second semester program as soon as they resumed from the strike with a view to get his lecturers and other non teaching staff committed to archiving the set mandate of the institution "So that we can all celebrate FUBK even after we had left it", he said.

He said he was not unaware of the huge expectations as he takes over the affairs of the University as such all stakeholders of the institution have greater roles to play in making FUBK the choicest university as far as admission is concerned.

"FUBK is one of the few universities with multiple campuses in the country having it's take-off campus, Medical sciences campus and the main campus.

"We hope to draw resources for it through capital campaign locally and internationally from organisations with funds for institutions like ours such as the EU, British Council and others.

"To make sure that all available openings are utilized in this regards, I will make sure the University gets support to fund it's academic and developmental activities. Fundings are never enough but we will optimize our resources for the progress and development of the FUBK", he said.

He said his administration would continue to engage the media for support and development of the institution. "We realize any responsible institution cannot do without the media if it must achieve it's set objectives", the V.C said.
