He is well known in the make-believe world, Mosnsuru Obadina aka Fala has paid his dues, and is a face to reckon with in the movie industry, especially in the Yoruba genre.
I started acting at a tender age, as far back as the early 70s in Lagos Island and if I have to go by my calculations, it should be over 49 years now.
Then, I had the following people as contemporaries; Rafiu Balogun, late Suraju aka Su- boy, Tayelolu Akanji aka Agbodorogun, Yinka Quadry aka Masomo, Fatai Adekannbi, Biodun Majekodunmi aka Baba Aladalu, Late Babatunde Omidina aka baba Suwe.
These were the people I considered my contemporaries back then. We were together, for close to fifty years. Those alive know very well that my claim is not an overstatement. We met in the 70s, and we grew up as one big family.
Rafiu Balogun knows my family and I also know his, we have been together for a very long time even before I had my son, and my boy is over 40 years.
Those that were in the limelight then were Ojo Ladipo, Osumare, Lookman Alade who did Oro Agba in Atoka Yoruba magazine, while Rafiu Balogun can be remembered for his Atoka exploit "Afonja". Rafiu Balogun is the husband of Fausat Balogun aka Madam Saje.
So if I tell you we know ourselves for over fifty years. I am not exaggerating.
Tell us more about the support you and other Actors are giving Bola Tinubu as regards his presidential bid?
We are supporting Tinubu's presidential ambition because we sat down and thought deeply about the benefit his emergence would give to Nigeria. We arrived at the conclusion that Tinubu is the man that can lead this country. Yoruba have not been able to rule the country very well the few ones that ruled like Baba Obasanjo, who was invited to contest by the cabal, also Shonekan that was made the head of an interim government by the same cabal. So no candidate of Yoruba has ever ruled. Awolowo had the prerogative and blueprints to rule the country but they never allowed him. Shonekan did not have the blueprint to rule the country but he ruled the country while Abiola that had the blueprint was not allowed. So the right person now who knows the problem of Nigeria is Bola Tinubu and we are solidly behind him. We will give him support. We are scrip writers and we are filmmakers, we look beyond the present, we look ahead to the future. We think beyond our level as we pass messages to society. I can tell you for free that we have our reasons for backing him up. I think it is high time a Yoruba man who has all it takes to lead for the first time.
Some people said you sing like Late Herbert Ogunde and got trained under him. How true is this sir?
Talking about singing like Herbert Ogunde yes I sing like him. I have loved his music right from when I was small it is not as if I trained under him. No, I only listened to his music as I was growing up. I studied his music performances and I did something like him in the theatre world. I remember then that whenever Ogunde's songs were played, I will quietly listen to the music not even minding if I was sent an errand. Today, I sing like him and he remains my mentor.
