Kebbi beach soccer team is expected to leave the shores of Nigeria next week to represent the continent of Africa in the World Beach Soccer Tournament slated to take place in Turkey.
The Secretary of Beach Soccer Club Abdullahi Yahaya made the disclosure while presenting the Nigeria trophy won by the team to Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu at the government house in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.
He said the beach soccer club which is just six years old is number one in Africa and it ranked number 49 in the world. "This was made possible through the efforts and support of Kebbi State Government and its sponsor, WACOT Rice Company", he said.
While presenting the trophy won by the club to Governor Bagudu Yayaha commended WACOT for the sponsorship of the team to Turkey to take part in the world beach soccer event.
In his response, Governor Bagudu thanked WACOT for its effort in taking the club to a desirable level. He said "In two years they have demonstrated what is possible.
"It was amazing to see how the team competed and defeated other state clubs in the country and won the Nigeria trophy".
He said enjoined the team to do Nigeria and Africa proud in Turkey.
