Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State on Monday said its high time for West African countries to collaborate in rice and wheat domestic production to take on the world market.
The governor while receiving the delegation of the Prime Minister of Cote de' Voire, Harve Achi Yeboua Koffi. Chairman of WACOT Rice, Farouk Gumel at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi said Africa contributed over 70m of the 700m metric tons of rice produced in the world. He said the continent can do better if its countries collaborate and take on the world market together. "No country in Africa is self sufficient in rice and wheat production", he said.
Bagudu stated that the visit of the cote de' Voire officials and that of WACOT rice came at a better time "Because you cannot solve Nigeria's problems without solving West Africa's problems. Nigeria government has recognized that we should have a policy for Nigeria bearing other African countries in mind so as to grow together and boost our domestic economy together", he said.
He observed that he was happy because West African countries are waking up to realize that they can grow their domestic economy together and support each other and take on the world market together.
Bagudu commended and described the WACOT Rice chairman, Gumel as a worthy ambassador of Nigeria and an exceptionally talented personality who was inaugurated two weeks ago by President Muhammadu Buhari into the board of Nigeria Common Wealth of Industries.
Speaking earlier, the ivorian prime minister's special adviser said from all indications, with its businesses and the brotherly posture of Nigeria with other African countries truly justifies Nigeria as the richest country in Africa. He noted that Nigeria's business activities with the ECOWAS countries has helped to boost their domestic economy.
