Her quest to better the lives of many in Africa has endeared her to so many people and she has been referred to as a lady with a big heart.
Chief Miss Adenike Tewogbade of Oyotunji Village a.k.a Nikki Spooner, is an American with a great passion for Yoruba gospel music. Being a White lady, her quest for the use of Yoruba language to win souls for her Creator despite has really made her stand tall amongst so many.
Nikki Spooner's love for Yoruba music, movie and other aspects of Yoruba people and their cultures knows no bound.
She lives in America and has good numbers of gospel singles she has produced in lucid Yoruba language.
In her words, she said, “I sing Gospel music. I am an American, born and raised in America. Though I don’t speak Yoruba fluently but I sing in Yoruba fluently and I am still learning to speak the beautiful language.”
Nikki Spooner said her love for the language made her interest in singing in Yoruba language grew tremendously over the years. She said, Yoruba is a beautiful language and music is a love language; so you can learn music in any language as long as you love it.
Also, her response to Nigeria as a country and her people, this beautiful white lady said, “Nigerian culture is amazing and Yoruba language is beautiful. Yoruba people are the most accommodating of all the tribes from my experience. I fell in love with Yoruba culture when I saw an official introduction and decided to look inward into the culture and her people.
There was a time I was learning how to cook Egusi soup in Nigeria when I heard one of King Sunny Ade’s music titled The Merciful God, I fell in love with the song and I became more determined to explore African culture, especially Yoruba music, the arts and tradition of the people and other sphere of entertainment.
I was touched by the song, The Merciful God and I did say to myself that if this song could touch my spirit despite the fact that I did not understand the language, it something I must explore. So I swore I would learn to sing in the language.
“I started working in the entertainment industry in 2014. I could describe my talent as original and designed to stand out.”
Taking up music in one of Nigeria’s language, Nikki Spooner said, “It has really given me a great opportunity. I have met former Presidents and different politicians. Also, the cordial relationship I enjoy with top musicians and actors from Nigeria is awesome.
Chief Miss Adenike Tewogbade of Oyotunji Village said it was an awesome scenario when she stood side by side preforming with King Sunny Ade. She said, “It was the highlight, I really enjoy the entertainment industry in Nigeria.”
Besides from being a member of the NGO international that provides support for humanity, Nikki has done many outreach programs in many different communities throughout Nigeria and with no signs of stopping.
She said, “I just finished building a teaching studio for the producer or my first album, Julieking, the office is located at Agege Motor Road, Lagos, Nigeria.”
Today, Nikki Spooner has done well for herself featuring in the following movies; Iwe Igbelu; Kowe, Village Idiot, 8 Days, The Oxford story and others while she has the following musical albums to her name, O mbe sibe, Thank you Lord, Iberu ko si, Unlimited Praise and many more.
"Those are just some of the movies I have acted amongst 21 Nollywood Movies I have taken part in so far." She said.
