Abayomi Alexandra Peters is his name, though he is a sibling to Afro Juju King, Sir Shina Peters, but in all ramifications and standard, he has carved a niche for himself in the world of music, especially Juju to be pricise.
Yomi Peters as he is fondly called recently came
out with a new album titled Juju Stereo, an act he did out together to give the
genre of music another facelift in the entertainment circle as different
classes of music take the center stage.
In this interview he said, "Juju music has its root right from the church
with great legends that are still around couple with the likes of us that are
with the quest of its sustenance at all time.
"Thus, I would like to say confidently that Juju music shall continue to
trend in all phases of life."
Yomi Peters in his words said, music has become a family business having began
with their grandmother who used to be a great singer.
"We all gotten our talents from our grandmother who used to be a good
singer in church and likewise mum too. My elder brother, Sir Shina Peters,
today in music is a force and Yomi Peters having been around since 1987, I
believed I have done very well.
I used to play Juju Shuffle but now it Stereo Juju with five tracks has lot of
vibes. I thought we needed another dimension for Juju music lovers hence we
came up with something distinct and it's been wonderful.
To his name he has these albums,
Yomi Peters said Juju music has served as conduit to other genres as different
musicians now pick from Juju music to found their base.
The hip hop music that some people believed has taken over from other genres,
the Stereo Juju crooner said, many out from other genres do pick from Juju
music being songs that have its root from the church
He said taking after someone in music does more damages than good.
"When Shina Peters came with Ace, it was a different voice, different vibes and distinct, hence his style was distinct and it really did well for him. I have nothing against taking after someone in music but it will limit whoever does that. You will be making little to eat, feed your family, but you may not grow bigger than the shadow of that person you are copying. The best one could do as a musician is to take a lane and maintain it. Be on your lane and make a name for yourself."
Obey never copied anybody like wise King Sunny Ade, Shina Peters, myself and some other ones that are able to stand on their own and exceed more than being tied to someone's apron.
Reacting to how far it has been, he said, we give all glory to God for his wonders in my life, we are good and we believe so much in Him for where he is taking us to.
Yomi Peters started from Church having taken the talents from his grandmother.
His talent has taken him to so many big Juju Acts like King Sunny Ade, Shina Peters and he has done couple of musical albums with different musicians including Wasiu Alabi Pasuma of Fuji music, Abbas Obesere, Alhaji Kollington Ayinla and others.
He said, "Stereo JuJu series one is set to make a great impact and it's been wonderful as people embraced it and make it their choice music.
To his name, Peters has all these; I love you, Na you be this, Mummy's Pet, Forward Ever, wonderful world and many others.
