Child trafficking: Police declares woman wanted in Lagos

Lagos  State Police Command has declared Mrs. Zainab Abosede Osholonge wanted on allegation of child trafficking, stealing, forgery and perjury.

The command made the declaration on Thursday January 21st, 2021 when members of Osholonge Family lodged complaint of their missing granddaughter Aliat Osholonge since July 2019. They claimed all efforts to trace the where about of the woman proved abortive.

According to the head of Osholonge family, Mr. Tajudeen Osholonge, he said, “The mother of our granddaughter absconded with the little girl when the family wanted to perform traditional ritual on the minor.

“The said ritual involved the circumcision of the little girl because it is considered a taboo in the family for any of our female children not to be circumcised. We have taken the necessary measure by reporting to the police because what she did was abduction without consent. She took our granddaughter away and this is not welcome by the family.”

The police authority said they received the report of an abducted child from the family of Osholonge and all efforts to trace the woman and the child proved abortive, hence Mrs. Zainab Osholonge has been declared wanted by the Nigeria Police.

When our correspondent spoke with one of Osholonge's Family members, having tried the number of the accused given to us, the man who spoke with us said, “We were all out to locate the woman because the woman's husband, our son Mr Rilwan Adeyemi Osholonge is not in support of the abduction.” He posited.

It could be recalled that sometimes in 29th of July 2019, the family of Osholonge was about to circumcise the little Aliat Osholonge, a minor at

No 40 Osholonge Compound, Aga Ikorodu, when her mother cried out and the family members in return that were out to protect their cultural belief as regards female circumcision in the family resisted and a big fight ensued.

The campaign against female child’s circumcision in Nigeria has been rife lately but there is no specific law that abolished the act.
