In her opening speech, Chief
Mrs. Yetunde Babajide, the south-west women leader for Buhari support groups
and the founder of Yefadot Kosofe Co-operative Multi-Purpose society said, “Our
quest is
quite different from what people see around as cooperative societies.
We have goals and we are working every day and night to make it realistic. No
member of this group will be jobless and to every member, you must have more
than a source of income.
“Part of our activities is the
core value we have placed on Agriculture. We have gotten a vast of land where
we would have a farm settlement. We shall farm together, harvest together and be
a big player of food supply to Nigerians and even beyond. Not only that, we are
working on having the rightful links for our members in the aspect of selling their
farm produce. The buyers we are talking here are people who buy in large
quantity; this will make Agricultural practice interesting once there is market
for the product.”
“We have ourselves in different
groups with viable leaders that will always be there for members; so that
people can work with like-minds.” Yetunde posited.
The Iyalode of Ojodu also said
that Yefadot Cooperative society will be a finder and provider of jobs for
member’s children. She said, “Opportunity is everywhere and when a member
discovers one, we are ready to maximize the opportunity for our members. Our
children shall have no cause to suffer for jobs after school. Also we want to
be employers of labour; that is why our agricultural practice is wide. Our
members shall be involved in different types of agricultural production and in
few years we want to be great in food production in Africa.”
In his own remarks, Alhaji
Najeem Korodo, a former NUPENG chairman while recounting his experience with a
cooperative society many years back said, “We were cheated, swindled and all
the money we contributed then was embezzled by so-called leaders. Till today; I
still see our Matron, though she couldn’t recognize me now, because then I was
nobody. Majority of members then were ignorant and they did take advantage of our
being naive on us.
“Today, I still see so many of
them around with a life I wouldn’t like to describe here. Now, they are paying
back for what they did to us.”
Describing the great advantage
of being a member of YEFADOT Cooperative Society, he said, “Yefadot cooperative
society operates in another dimension that will make life better for a poor man
to become something relevant. With those at the helm of affairs, ours has a
promising future for all and sundry; and I believe we would all grow together
and become something great.
“Part of the plan here is the provision
of vast land where we would all practice Agric business in different forms.
Also, there is facility for different training for members in any chosen field
of your choice. Yefadot Agric School is here for training on how to become a
qualified farmer and for those who would like to get trained in other field we
have the provision here.
“Meanwhile, our leaders are
trust-worthy people we could count on. A former DIG, Jubril Adeniji, is a
distinguished police officer who served for 35 years without blemish; this is a
man we can always trust with our future. Also, our founder, Chief Mrs.
Yetunde
Babajide, is someone with high integrity whose passion for assisting the needy remains
sacrosanct. These are people we can do business with and have a guaranteed
future. Let us share ideas that will be of benefits to us all so that together
we can all go to the next level.
“Let’s work together and be
serious with our purpose here, YEFADOT Cooperative society is made up of serious
minded people and our quest is to make life better for our members and the
society at large.” He said.
