His declaration as the next governor of Osun state came after the supplementary election held in seven polling units in the state on Thursday.
The final votes announced by the electoral body shows
that Oyetola got 255,505 votes, while Adeleke secured 255,023 votes.
Consequently, the Returning Officer, Professor Joseph Afuwape,
declared Oyetola the winner of the election.
Meanwhile Senator Ademola
Adeleke, the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the Osun
governorship election, has urged the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) to cancel the rerun election which he lost on Thursday.
Ademola Adeleke has
described the re-run election as a “charade” which must not be allowed to
stand. His position was disclosed in a statement by his campaign office on Thursday
afternoon. It was hinged on the widespread reports of voter intimidation and
other forms of violence which marred the re-run election, especially in Orolu
Local Government Area.

“The whole world is
witnessing a charade in the name of election, a deliberate effort at imposition
of a discredited leadership on the suffering people of Osun State through
undisguised brutal force,” the campaign said. “Applying all standards, today’s
supplementary poll is a non-event as all norms of electoral process are
violated.”
"I urge INEC, with immediate effect to cancel
today's election and declare me the winner because I've already won the
election. This is a kangaroo election with all the security agents intimidating
my party faithfuls. All the people that wanted to vote, they drove them; so
this is not an election. Nigeria is in trouble. We're at war in Osun."
Adeleke
also disclosed that he has enough evidence to prove that he already won before
the rerun and will take the matter to an election tribunal if he has to.
"Like I said before, we're not a violent
people. The option is there for us to go to court, tribunal. We have a lot of
evidences that we've won the election already," he said.
There have been reports
that the re-run election has neither been free nor fair since polls opened
across the four local government areas identified for the exercise after the
main process on Saturday was declare inconclusive.
Senator Ademola Adeleke
came first in the election on Saturday, but his thin margin of just 353 votes
over his closest rival Gboyega Oyetola compelled INEC to declare the election
inconclusive and ordered a re-run among the participating parties. About 2,637
out of 3,498 registered voters collected their voters’ cards and would be
eligible to participate in today’s exercise across four LGAs.
In another development; President Muhammadu Buhari
has congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Governor-elect of
Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, for winning the governorship election.
President Buhari in a statement signed on Friday by his
Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said also
congratulated the state and national campaign teams for working assiduously to
guarantee the victory at the polls.
