The Yoruba community in Padova (Egbe Omo Yoruba Veneto) will
this Saturday, 21/07/2018 put on display the rich cultural heritage of the
Yoruba people of the South-West Nigeria at a big event to mark the 15th
anniversary of the association.
The Yoruba people are an ethnic group of South-western and North-central
Nigeria, as well as Southern and Central Benin. Together, these regions are
known as Yorubaland. The Yorubas constitute over 40 million people in total.
The majority of this population is from Nigeria, and the Yoruba makes up 21% of
the country's population, making them one of the largest ethnic groups in
Africa.
The majority of the Yorubas speak the Yoruba language, which is
tonal, and is the Niger-Congo language with the largest number of native
speakers.
The celebration which will start at 4pm is expected to have in
attendance one of the most important and powerful king in Nigeria, the Ooni of
Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and other Yoruba sons and daughters from
across the globe who have signified their intentions to attend and support the
great work of cultural ambassadors the association has been spear-heading over
the years.
Among the activities lined up for the day include a symposium on
the need to promote Yoruba language, fashion/cultural parade and display
coupled with rich traditional and modern Yoruba musical concert.

A prominent Nigerian Fuji act, Abass Akande Obesere is the guest
artiste while other Yoruba artistes in Europe will be on the stand to
complement the event.
In the words of the president of the association, Mr. Lanre
Badmus, he said the Egbe Omo Yoruba Veneto has come a long way and has done
great exploits in encouraging Yoruba sons and daughters in diaspora not to
forget their culture and language, especially by ensuring their children born
abroad are made to witness and participate in events that could endear Yoruba
culture to their hearts.
Also expected at the ceremony are the national president of
Yoruba National Community in Italy, Dr. Dato Shonaike and the Ife-born
immediate president of Egbe Omo Yoruba Veneto, Prince Kolawole Oladele.
