Mistura Aderohunmu-Asafa |
She was a kid when the story
began, blessed with talent and zeal to explore the world with her music.
Mistura Aderohunmu came out with Temi Ni Success and success came her way as
she remains a force to reckon with among Islamic singers and in the music industry in
Nigeria.
Her soj
ourn dated back to 2003 when she joined other Muslim singers to propagate the religion of Allah and the teachings of the Holy Prophet through music.
ourn dated back to 2003 when she joined other Muslim singers to propagate the religion of Allah and the teachings of the Holy Prophet through music.
Mistura Aderohunmu-Asafa bares
it all in this interview; excerpt:
“My name is Mistura
Asafa-Aderounmu, a Muslim from Ogun state, Nigeria, married to an America based
Computer Engineer; I am a songstress, and I have got six albums to my name
with several joint albums I did with senior colleagues and others in the music
industry.”
Reacting to the new album she
is working on, Temi Ni Success as she is fondly called said, “Adun Igbeyawo is
the new album I am working on. It has 3 tracks; Adun Igbeyawo; Tuntun and
Asikir. It is quite different from what I have released in the past. It’s about
the beauty in conjugal bliss, the beauty side of being married. I am married
and sharing my experience with those that are enjoying the bliss and those that
are planning to go into it, isn’t a bad idea. A lot is happening to people’s marriage
these days, coming out with something that would make people have a blissful
marriage will go a long way for a better society rather than domestic violence we have here and there these days. So, my new album Adun Igbeyawo is laced with so many
things, it is inspiring and full of prayers for all believers irrespective of
religious inclination.”
Mistura stressed further that, “This
would be my sixth album, though I have done several albums with other artistes.
My single album are six in numbers; they are Temi Ni success, my maiden album released
in 2003, followed by O dun 2005; Ope mi 2010; Gbigba Adura 2014; and this
current one; Adun Igbeyawo.”
Recounting her experiences so
far, Aderounmu said, “Though it has been tough, rough but yet we have every
cause to glorify Allah’s name. God has been wonderful to me and to His glory
today, we have got lots of achievement to show for being an Islamic gospel
singer. Having started very young when my dad used to be my manager; I
was too young to face the challenges alone, so my dad had to come in and stood
by me. Today, we have success to our story. I have been to hajj, built myself
an edifice, got a good car; I am a graduate and also married to a handsome
Prince. All these are to the glory of God.
Her response to those looking up
to her, she said, “Many out there are blessed with talents, but no matter how good
you are; you still need to understudy someone, this would create a good ground
for you in the trade.
“Today, many do not want to
serve; rather they want to become an over-night boss, this might be difficult, you
need to serve and once you have served; definitely you will become master
someday.”
I have got two great mentors;
they are Alhaji Wasiu Kayode As-Sidiq and his lovely wife, Alhaja Hafsat
As-sidiq. Their contributions towards what I am today are immeasurable.
Alhaja Hafsat Sidiq is my role model, I could remember when I was going about
looking for sponsors, the day Alhaji Wasiu Kayode set eyes on me; he was
convinced I could go places with my talent. He became interested in me and even
paid for all expenses incurred in my maiden album, Temi Ni success, though
Afeezco later paid back, but he took the first move, because he believed so
much in me.”
