BACK TO PDP: SARAKI, FATAI AHMED, IBETO MAKE U-TURN

*Senate President,
Bukola Saraki

After weeks of apprehension and long waiting by politicians in Kwara state on the next move as they signified their intention to dump APC, Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Kwara state governor, Abdul-Fatah Ahmed have returned back to People’s Democratic Party.
Having left the party 3 years ago on the wake of 2015 general election, the duo with their supporters are now back in PDP as preparation for 2019 general election approaches.
Different reactions have been trailing this development, while members of Peoples Democratic Party are happy with the new development having witnessed more returnees back to the party in recent time. Meanwhile, some political analysts have described the move as a danger to democracy as politicians are more concern about themselves than the ideology they ought to uphold.
The National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Tuesday has described the defection as a round peg in a round hole. He said, “The nation requires the input of genuine patriots that will save it from an impending decline.”
He stressed further that, “The PDP notes the harassment and intimidation that the duo of Senator Saraki and Governor Ahmed had suffered from the lords in the disintegrating All Progressives Congress (APC) which they helped to build and nurtured to win elections.

“Senator Saraki, in particular, has conducted the affairs of the Senate in reflection of the wishes of the silent majority of Nigerians and had emerged a hero of democracy”.Meanwhile, the party has also lauded the decision of Alhaji Ahmed Ibeto, Nigeria's Ambassador to South Africa as he joined PDP having dumped APC.
The Party said “We have no doubts that Senator Saraki, Governor Ahmed and Alhaji Ibeto will contribute immensely to the new order that engender good governance in our nation”.
The party assured all the returning members of all the rights and privileges accruable to every member. In another development, The All Progressive Congress has given the Senate President 48 hours to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for violating the Party’s constitution. Dr. Saraki was accused of breaching Article 21 of its constitution and engaging in anti-party activities. Among several other allegations, the APC claimed that the Senate President encouraged and facilitated by providing an enabling environment for the defection of some senators who are members of the APC to the other opposition parties. It also claimed that Dr Saraki “deliberately refused to screen nominees for appointments submitted by Mr. President who are members of the party”.
