The Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Zuru has said the governor's appointment to head President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Campaign Council’s Directorate of Labour Union Relations is based on his experience, capacity and political sagacity.
He said the appointment is strategic and commendable as it would bring decades of his labour leadership experience, as Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) at local and state levels, National Treasurer and President of NUT, and later Deputy National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to bear on the role assigned to him in the President's campaign council.
He said as governor and unionist, he has also mediated successfully between the federal government and labour during industrial disputes, a role recently acknowledged by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris.
Leaders of the NUT and NLC, past and present, including Comrades Abdulwaheed Ibrahim Umar, Ayuba Wabba, Joe Ajaero, and Audu Titus Amba, have consistently consulted with Governor Idris in Birnin Kebbi on national labour matters.
Politically, the Governor has galvanized APC members and stakeholders in Kebbi State, including those who returned to the party after contesting elsewhere.
His efforts have strengthened APC’s dominance and boosted confidence ahead of 2027.
Notably, Governor Nasir Idris was the first state governor to endorse President Tinubu for a second term at the APC Zonal meeting in Kaduna.
His appointment as Head of the Directorate of Labour Union Relations is, therefore, a clear case of “putting a round peg in a round hole.” Insha Allah, it will deliver the desired results for the Renewed Hope Agenda.
