Kebbi State Government has said it was ready to look into the draft policy on youth development being canvassed by the youth groups in the state for passage into law.
The Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Nura Bala Fingila made the submission in Birnin Kebbi at a Youth Policy Dialogue, with the theme: 'Strengthening Youth Policy Development, Review and Implementation', convened to fine-tune the final draft copy of the policy.
He said on submission of the draft copy of the policy to government, the state Executive Council would deliberate on it and subsequently remodelled it into a bill to be submitted to the House of Assembly for ratification and implementation.
The Commissioner said "Youths development in Kebbi State is on course, since the advent of incumbent administration. Governor Nasir Idris has remained focused, determined and committed to youth development through empowerment, educational pursuit, skills acquisition programmes and sporting activities, aimed at enhancing the physical and mental abilities of youths with attendant economic prosperity".
The Coordinator of the Workshop, Amiru Umar Faruk, Programme Manager, Solid Stone Advocacy for Health and Education Initiative, explained that, the purpose of the draft policy, entailed the inclusion of youths in all strata of governance. "We are desirous of youths involvement in all affairs especially those with direct bearing on them.
"Let the elders allow the youths to handle matters affecting their lives and wellbeing, they should be allowed to solve their own problems", he said
He added that the new draft policy, perfected by the youth groups is ready for submission to the government. "We are appreciative and thankful to Governor Nasir Idris for his commitment and actions to youth development since assumption of power, which has galvanized them to effectively play their role in state building", he said.
Earlier, the chairman of the Coalition of CSOs in the state,comrade Ibrahim Ngaski said the csos are ready to work with the youth groups to ensure the state has a youth friendly development policy. He enjoined the youth to work together to achieve the signing of the draft policy into law.
