The Kebbi State Government has announced the restoration of steady water supply to residents of Birnin kebbi following the successful repair work carried out by local engineers on the faulty section of the state waterworks facility.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, confirmed the completion of repairs works while briefing newsmen at the waterworks on Monday.
He stated that the facility had been fully repaired and the pumps are now supplying water to the main reservoir for distribution to residents across the township.
"We have been on site for several days monitoring the process, and I am pleased to inform the public that water supply to residents in Birnin Kebbi will resume tomorrow, Tuesday,” Bala-Tafida said.
He recalled that Governor Nasir Idris had constituted a task force to ensure the swift rehabilitation of the waterworks.
“The committee includes the SSG, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, officials from the Ministry of Water Resources, security agencies, and technical staff of the Kebbi State Water Board,” he added.
Daily bytes reported on Thursday, 1 January that the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Alhaji Isah Arzika, explained that engineers had detected a major burst at the Dukki waterworks shortly after the lifting period five days ago.
He said that by the time the engineers arrived, the lifting machines had already been submerged, but swift action was taken to shut them down and minimise further damage.
Arzika noted that replacement pumping machines had been sourced and deployed to evacuate the flooded areas.
He added that a team of engineers was on site to dismantle the affected machines for proper drying and testing.
