Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, has dismissed reports alleging a confrontation between his administration and the Council of Afobajes over the selection of a new Awujale of Ijebuland, describing the claims as false and misleading.

The governor, through official sources, clarified that his recent engagement with the Afobajes was purely consultative and conducted in a spirit of mutual respect, in line with similar meetings previously held with the Olori Ebis to resolve divisions and foster unity within traditional institutions in the state.

According to the statement, Governor Abiodun’s interaction with the Afobajes focused on issues of common interest aimed at strengthening traditional governance and promoting progress in Ijebuland. It added that such engagements had in the past helped to harmonise polarized groups and even led to the withdrawal of a pending court case by one of the kingmakers.

Reacting to rumours making the rounds, the government stressed that the governor neither issued threats nor ultimatums to any traditional stakeholder. It also dismissed claims that he declared “No Kuye, No Awujale” as entirely fabricated and the handiwork of mischief-makers.

“The governor holds the Awujale throne in very high esteem and has consistently demonstrated respect for traditional institutions,” the statement said.

Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his commitment to due process, the autonomy of traditional councils and a transparent, fair process in the selection of a new Awujale of Ijebu. His administration, it added, remains focused on dialogue, harmony and the preservation of cultural values.

The public, traditional stakeholders and members of the media were urged to disregard the unfounded reports and rely only on verified information from official sources.

The statement was signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, and dated January 21, 2026.
