Thousands of PDP members from parts of Kebbi State, Danko-Wasagu, Zuru and Geese area of Birnin kebbi defected to the ruling APC on Monday over what they described as good governance initiative embarked upon by Governor Nasir Idris's administration in the state.
While the opposition leaders were being officially received at the APC State Secretariat in Birnin kebbi by the party chairman Abubakar Muhammad Kana Zuru, they pour encomium on Governor Nasir Idris for restoring security to Zuru Emirate and other parts of the state and as well embarked on several peoples' oriented infrastructural project away from what obtained in the past administration
The former PDP candidate for the House of Assembly in the last election, now APC member, Arzika Lawal Ribah said the decision to decamp to the APC stemmed from the giant strides of Governor Nasir Idris to bring back security to Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
"We PDP members are more than 2000 to leave the party and join the ruling party, in acknowledgement of the untiring efforts of the Governor to the restoration of good security environment in the locality",
"We give kudos to him, few days after the abduction of students of the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary Maga, Gov. Idris strove hard to ensuring their release unharmed within few days", Arzika said.
He however requested the APC hierarchy at the state headquarters to counsel aides to the Governor to imbibe the benevolence and compassion of the governor in service delivery.
"The aides of the Governor are not following onto his footprints, they are not helping their people, the party must bring them to order", Arzika remarked.
Other PDP defectors to the APC who spoke, were Singer Binta Bena and Maryam Aliyu Waje, eulogizing Gov. Idris for restoring security to Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, unlike before.
"The 3 years of Governor Nasir Idris in power are more beneficial to the people of Kebbi than the 8 years of the immediate previous administration",
"We lived in fear in the past, but now, troops have beenh in stationed permanently at designated locations, providing 24 hours surveillance and security, we now sleep with our two eyes closed", they said.
Maryam Aliyu requested for the sinking of additional borehole in Waje to improve water supply to the town, which the state APC Chairman, Kana Zuru, mandated the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Council Chairman, to execute the project immediately.
Receiving the PDP defectors this Tuesday, Kana Zuru, welcomed them into the APC fold, assuring them of equality and fair treatment without discrimination.
"The party has received you wholeheartedly, from today, you are like all other members of the APC, old and new, I've instructed party Executive members at ward and local government levels to engage and consult with you on all party affairs",
