The Chairman of Maiyama Local Government in kebbi State, Adamu Aliyu Liba has refuted the allegations of misconduct leveled against him, saying it's the handiwork of his political opponents in the area.
While briefing journalists on the petition written by a group of people called Maiyama Local Government Progressive Union to Kebbi State House of Assembly alleging series of misconducts against him, Liba said he was not involved in any misconduct in his capacity as the council chairman of Maiyama local government.
Though he was yet to be served, the petition was read during a plenary session by the assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Mohammed Usman Zuru (Lifiddan Zuru). In the petition, he was accused of personal appropriation of an 18‑seater Toyota bus, uncompleted electricity project from Maiyama to Andarai, unauthorized sale of two caterpillars and a fill‑loader belonging to the council, and illegal disposal of plots in Dadin -Kowa Market.
Reading the petition, the Speaker referred the matter to the House Committee on Public Petitions, chaired by the Chief Whip Muhammad Sani Garba Tiggi, to investigate and report back to the house next week
Denying the allegations, Liba explained that the heavy equipment had been auctioned with clearance from the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and that the 18‑seater bus remains in his custody for the political support activities for Governor Nasir Idris and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He said “The 18‑seater bus is on ground, it was never sold as alleged by the petitioners. It is in my custody as Chairman of Maiyama Local Government".
On the electricity project he said it has been fully completed and it's currently serving the people of Andarai and its environs.
He said “I wrote to the Governor requesting repairs of Andarai electricity, and he approved ₦245 million for the project. The work is 100 % completed and Andarai is enjoying adequate electricity now".
“There is no such allocation of plots in Dadin Kowa as alleged in the petition during my tenure. This frivolous and baseless allegations of political blackmail cannot succeed without cogent evidence", he said.
The local government chairman called on the people of Maiyama to remain calm and be law‑abiding while assembly investigation on the matter is ongoing. We know these allegations are mere political distractions and will not deter me from discharging my statutory duties as elected council chairman.”
Also Haruna Musa, the Councillor for Andarai Ward in the defence of the council chairman said the electricity project was completed and the areas now enjoys uninterrupted power supply.
