Kebbi State Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service and the Operation Whirl Wind have seized 1,429 Jerrycans of petrol, 444 wraps of Cannabis Sativa, 143 sacks of Donkey Meat, 100 bales of second-hand clothing, 140 cartons of foreign spaghetti,100 bags of foreign parboiled rice and 20 jerrycans of vegetable valued at ₦109,595,761 at the various flashpoints around Kebbi borders.
While briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Birnin kebbi on Wednesday, the Area Controller, Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim said 14,750 litres of petrol with a fees of eight million, eight hundred and fifty thousand Naira Only (₦8,850,000) and another 20,975 litres of petrol valued at twelve million, five hundred and five thousand (₦12,585,000) were seized at various identified flashpoints in Bagudo, Lolo, Tsamiya, Bunza, Dankingari, Kamba, and Zuru/Mahakala areas of the state.
He said "Today, we are showcasing two significant seizures. Operation Whirlwind intercepted 590 jerry cans of PMS, while Kebbi Area Command seized 839 jerry cans of PMS".
He added that the customs service remains committed to stopping s Imugglers and protecting the country's economy.
The Controller added that the smugglers used borders in the state to take fuel to other countries and thereby hurting the nation's economy and causing fuel shortages in the state.
He maintained that through sustained collaboration with the Niger Republic the command has achieved a seamless flow of cross-border trade through the Kamba axis and generated ₦25,621,609.26 (Twenty-Five Million, Six Hundred and Twenty-One Thousand, Six Hundred and Nine Naira, Twenty-Six Kobo Only) in September representing a 36.13% increase compared to the previous month of August.
He said the seized 143 pieces of Donkey meat would be handed over to the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) and 444 wraps of Cannabis Sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
