The National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) has said it will undertake rehabilitation, regeneration and conservation in 15 Kebbi State communities due to the degradation of their ecosystem.
The agency's Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Saleh Abubakar during the stakeholders validation workshop for the integrated dry project said this became necessary for people of the areas to live in peace.
The five affected local government areas of the state are Arewa, Dandi Argungu Augie and Bunza.
Abubakar who was represented by a director in charge of afforestation and land management in the agency, Ahmed Bagudo said there was urgent need to restore back the degraded ecosystem of the affected communities inline with the mandate of the Great Green Wall.
He added that project is part of the larger regional initiative designed with ambitious goal to improve land -use practices across 3,000 hectares and the interventions are critical to reversing land degradation and fostering resilience in the communities
He said "The validation workshop is to present the refined design of the draft project appraisal document for stakeholders review,inputand endorsement".
In his remarks, the permanent secretary, federal ministry of environment, Adam Kambari said the proposed project was conceptualized to support the great green wall initiative implementation in kebbi state.He said kebbi was selected out of three states initially proposed for the project.
