The Resurrection of the Totipotency Nature of the Ministry of Interior in Nigeria by Hon. Tunji Ojo

1

Aestivation/dormancy are periods of inactivity of living cells.

During Aestivation, the activities of the cells are limited. The metabolism is at low ebb, during this period production of energy in form of ATP are very low. Activities of such organisms remains potential, remember, it is only the kinetic state that can bring about the full benefits of the organism in the ecosystem. This is the description of the ministry of interior before the kinetic inputs of Dr. Tunji Ojo.

In recent years, Nigeria’s Ministry of Interior has undergone a revitalization, aiming to assert its totipotency—a metaphorical ability to encompass and address multifaceted administrative, security, and infrastructural challenges within the nation. This transformation signifies the ministry's renewed focus on holistic governance and dynamic problem-solving in a complex socio-political landscape.

Totipotency, borrowed from biological terminology, denotes a cell's capacity to develop into any type of cell. Applied metaphorically to the Ministry of Interior, it represents the institution's potential to integrate and enhance diverse areas of national interest, including immigration, civil defense, citizenship, and emergency management. Historically, the ministry's contributions have often been overshadowed by challenges such as bureaucratic inefficiencies and underfunding. However, recent reforms signal a resurrection—a reclaiming of its innate ability to tackle and transform critical sectors in Nigerian governance.

Several initiatives underscore this resurgence. For instance, advancements in digital immigration processes have streamlined travel documentation, reflecting a forward-thinking approach to global mobility. Similarly, the Civil Defence Corps has adopted modern training regimes, strengthening community safety and resilience against security threats. These examples highlight the ministry's efforts to redefine itself as a key driver of national development.

Moreover, the resurrection of the Ministry of Interior's totipotency nature is supported by its collaborative efforts with other government agencies. Inter-agency synergy has proven essential in addressing pressing issues such as border security, disaster management, and the promotion of inclusive citizenship policies. By harnessing collective expertise and resources, the ministry exemplifies the versatility and interconnectedness implied by totipotency.

What the majority known as the duty of the interior ministry was the declaration of the public holidays. Until the era of Dr. Bumi Tunji Ojo, ministry of interior has been in the state of Aestivation/dormancy, having so much energy to function but potentiate it.

What could cause this? When the purpose is not discovered, abuse is inevitable. Underutilization is an abuse, which can be likened to “ignorance -led hibernation”.

What could bring about “ignorance -led hibernation”?

1. Inferiority complex.

2. Lack of technical know-how.

3. Less exposure

4. Working with directionless leaders.

5. Status quo following and lack of positive system disruption

6. Lack of innovation thinking.

7. Being surrounded by sycophants

8. Gullible led by gullible

9. Leadership without objective scorecard.

10. Tradition replacing Agility.

Any system that satisfies the above listed points can naturally proceed to ignorance-led hibernation/Aestivation.

As we know, wisdom is the application of knowledge, in the school of wisdom, knowledge is key.

We thank God for giving us the Honorable minister of Interior (Dr.Tunji Ojo), having garnered knowledge from different fields of works with the ability to apply it strategically in reviving the ministry.

The digitalization of the security surveillance, the harvesting of scattered national databases, the eradication of personal contact in passport processing, inter agency and ministries synergistic collaboration for quantum results and so many achievements.

Most of the national problems can be solved if we go for professionalism rather than nepotism.

We thank God for giving us Hon Bumi Tunji Ojo (BTO)
