Kebbi Customs Seize N84m Contrabands, Rakes in N13m Revenue In One Month

The Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Thursday said it has seized goods worth 84m from smugglers around the state borders.


Some of the seized  items include 145 bales of used clothes,13,750 litres of petrol, 20 cartoons of new light cigarettes, 70 Vanila water biscuits,  27 dry batteries and 40 bags of foreign sugar with duty paid value of N84m.


While briefing Journalists at the state command headquarters in Birnin Kebbi,the Customs Area Controller, Chukumeziri Nwokorie also said the command has generated over N13m revenue within one month despite the huge setback occasioned by the closure of the Tsamiya / Sebgana borders leaving the Kamba border as the only source of revenue, yet the command still stay afloat to generate revenue for the nation.



He said the seizures were successful because of the collaboration, cooperation and intelligence sharing with other sister agencies alongside the combative field officers of the service.


The comptroller said the suppression and decimation of smuggling is one of the cure mandate given to him and to achieve that he has mer with stakeholders, awakened and rejuvenated the key units of the command and engaged the sister agencies 


He emphasized that its not only the smuggling in and out of used clothes, foreign rice, oil and petroleum products that his command fights against, "we also seize and destroy illicit dtugs,guns and other dangerous and prohibited items", he said.
