The Oyo State Police Command in Ibadan has apprehended Oyebode Olagbaju and his sister, Funke Olagbaju, along with several others for their involvement in kidnapping and engaging in same-sex activities in the state.
According to eyewitness accounts, trouble began when Funke Olagbaju called the police to arrest her younger brother, Oyebode Olagbaju, and his accomplices for the kidnapping of a friend's child (name withheld).
They allegedly collected a ransom of two million naira from the friend, who has since left the country. During the police investigation, Oyebode Olagbaju disclosed that his sister, who had reported him to the police, was also involved in criminal activities, specifically alleging that she was in a lesbian relationship with a friend, Omolara Odunola Ogunbiyi, whose son she was accused of kidnapping.
A police officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, stated, “The case has taken a new dimension with the revelation of same-sex activity. Both the complainant and the accused are now in police custody facing separate charges involving kidnapping and same-sex practices, as the investigation continues to track down other suspects who are currently at large." Included on the wanted list is Omolara Odunola Ogunbiyi, who is alleged to be Funke Olagbaju’s sexual partner and is believed to have fled the country.
The police are pursuing her case, as she is accused of being involved in same-sex activities and must be held accountable. It is important to note that kidnapping in Nigeria is a serious crime that carries severe penalties. Additionally, same-sex relationships are criminalized under various laws, including both federal and state codes, with penalties ranging from imprisonment to capital punishment in some northern states governed by Shari'a law.
