500,000 Children To Get Gov Wife's Vitamin Supplements In Kebbi

No fewer than 500,000 children are expected to benefit from the distribution of vitamin supplements by the wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nafisa Nasir Idris.

Dr. Nafisa disclosed this while flagging off maternal newborn and children healthcare week at MCH Nasarawa in Birnin Kebbi.

She called on mothers to visit hospitals to collect vitamin supplements for their children free of charge.

The Governor's Wife who was represented by the state ANCOPSS Chairperson, Hajiya Salamatu Tafida said children and women healthcare is a matter of great concern hence the need for them to be complemented.

She pledged to continue supporting women and children across the State in the areas of health, education, and empowerment.

The state Commissioner of Health, Comrade Yunusa Musa Ismail, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shehu Nuhu Koko said the programme was part of efforts to sensitize women on the importance of regular antenatal care, immunization and nutrition to address maternal and child related problems in the state.

He commended the State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), his Wife, Dr Nafisa Nasir Idris and the development partners such as UNICEF, GAIN, and Nutrition International for their joint collaboration in ensuring the healthier condition of women and children in Kebbi State.

In her remark, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning Hajiya Aishatu Usman said the State is among the states that records the number of malnourished children in Nigeria while appealing to all and sundry to join hands in fighting the menace.

The Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad said the programme is organized to deliver and integrated package of highly cost-effective and curative services like antenatal care to strengthen routine PHC services in the state.

He added that if the programme continue as planned it will no doubt improve maternal and child health as well as minimized number of stunted children in the State.

The event features Drama presentation and distribution of gifts to nursing mothers that breastfed their children exclusively.
