First FIFA N1.2bn Mini Stadium Commission In Kebbi

From Samaila Bayo Birnin Kebbi

The First FIFA N1.2bn Mini Stadium has been commissioned in kebbi State.

The stadium project was started in 2019 but was stopped because of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the stadium at Goru in Birnin Kebbi, FIFA's Head of Development Program for Africa, Mr. Solomon Mundege said the world football body was happy with the commissioning because Kebbi now has its own facility that can be used for local matches.

"It's indeed a realization of positive development for the state. This is the first one in Nigeria, that's why it's historic for us to come here.

"We are working on another one in Delta State. We also have another project in Abuja. We want to achieve the required standard for Nigeria such as the ones in Morocco, Tanzania and South Africa by FIFA.

"We want Nigeria to have high quality facilities for it's national team as training camps", he said.

Speaking earlier, the state chairman of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Abubakar Chika Ladan said the commissioning of the stadium was what the football federation in the state has been waiting for. "That project would have been completed in 2021 but because of COVID-19 and other factors. It was completed eight months ago", he said.

He said the major problem being faced in football event is lack of facilities for the players to showcase themselves. He added that now, clubs in the state can train from the FIFA stadium before going for their matches.

The state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Alhaji Nurudeen Fingilla in his vote of thanks said the FIFA mini stadium is historic in the life of Kebbi State. "With this big project there is no how you can write the history of football in Nigeria without mentioning kebbi", he said.
