The in charge of Primary healthcare Centres for Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) have called for a review of the monthly capitation given to them to run the program in 122 PHCs assigned for the scheme.
The PHCs managers, Sayyanu Sarki in charge of Raha PHC in Bunza, Yakubu Ahmed Yangakwai of PHC Rijiyar Mai Kabi, Maryam Yusuf of MCH Kamba and Wasilat Salihu of PHC Dole Kaina in Dandi local government area of the state all said the monthly capitation given to them by Kechema can hardly procure necessary drugs and needs to sustain the contributory healthcare program in their PHCs.
While Speaking to our correspondent during a media tour to some health facilities under the Kechema's contributory healthcare program, the managers of PHCs in Marafa, Rikoto, Dabai and Senchi also said the monthly capitation is grossly insufficient to procure drugs and other medical needs of the over 300 patients and adhoc staff under the state contributory healthcare 24 hours program in their PHCs.
They maintained that for them to improve on their services to patients particularly the vulnerable, Kebbi State government must review the capitation given to them on monthly basis for the contributory healthcare program to be sustained.
Under the Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency law No 2 of 2018, it is mandatory for the State Government to release equity funds of 2 percent consolidated revenue of the state, 1 percent consolidated revenue of local governments,5 percent of contract sum and 25 percent of counterpart funding of the basic healthcare provision fund of the federal government.
The manager of the PHC in Rikoto, Hajiya Maidawa said "It's the same amount that we received in 2021 that we still receive in 2023. This amount can no longer cover the cost of drugs and other services that we give under Kechema Contributory healthcare program.
She said the program has helped many vulnerable who are under the Kechema and keches program. "Many of them with ailments that requires surgery are being treated at the PHCs under the contributory healthcare program and drugs are being dispensed to them free of charge.
"Such a program design to help the vulnerable in kebbi society must be sustained. That's why we call for review of funds given to the PHCs", she said.
